The State Council issued The Implementation of the State Council on Deepening the Reform of Examination Recruitment System in 2014.It indicated to reform exam course settings.Except Chinese,math,English subjects,“According to the requirements of university and students’ own specialty,candidates could choose subjects from politics,history,geography,physics,chemistry,biology and other subjects".The paper also would reform college admission mechanism "to explore a diversified admission mechanism,which based on unified college entrance examination and high school achievement test results,and comprehensive quality evaluation".However,in the process of deepening the reform of the examination recruitment system,it caused some crises of elective subjects,which has attracted extensive attention from all walks of life.Students abandon the examination of physics,the auxiliary facilities of optional class system are not perfect,the number of students’ elective courses doesn’t match the number of teachers,and the comprehensive quality evaluation is not perfect.These problems have become the focus of academic circles and public opinion.The State Council made it clear that the selection of courses and optional class system should be carried out in an orderly manner and accorded with local conditions,and"the overall allocation of teacher staffing should be further strengthened".The Ministry of Education also made it clear to "guide universities to optimize the requirements of elective subjects in the pilot provinces of the comprehensive reform of the college entrance examination".Therefore,This thesis takes the British GCE A-level as the research object and examines it by comparative perspective,so as to reduce the risk of the reform of the examination admission system in China,which is of great practical significance for China to establish modern education examination admission system with Chinese characteristics by 2020.The GCE A-level curriculum system provides students with a wide range of subjects to choose from and allows them to choose subjects based on their interests and needs.The qualification certification granted after passing the examination is an important reference for college admission.GCE A-level is the main form of education that students receive from 16 to 18 years old in the UK.The UK implementsindependent exam and admission system,which means teaching,examination and admission are independent of each other.Schools are responsible for teaching,special examination organizations are responsible for qualification examination,and universities are responsible for admission.GCE A-level gives students a greater right to choose subjects.However,when students choose subjects in reality,they will be affected by various factors,including not only objective factors,such as subject difficulty,comparability and admission requirements,but also subjective factors,such as students’ cognition of subjects and parents’ and teachers’ suggestions.The UK has adopted a series of guidance and support strategies in the selection of subjects for students.In order to guide students to choose subjects,high schools take the main responsibility to guide students to choose subjects,and universities guide students to choose subjects from the perspective of majors,and the government and exam bodies implement the top-level design to improve the system of selective examination,and social organizations and groups participate in the selective examination actively.In terms of supporting and protecting students’ interests in choosing subjects,high schools protect students’ interests through some measures,such as the tutorial system and the system of choosing courses crossing schools.Universities broaden students’ field of view in choosing subjects through the collaboration with high school and offer remedial courses to bridge the gap in students’ professional foundation.The government actively increases the construction of teaching staff.Social organizations and groups provide learning resources for teachers and students,and actively participate in career education planning.In studying the guidance and support system of self-selection of GCE A-level subjects in the UK,this paper analyzes the guidance and support measures of high schools,universities,government and society to choose subjects for the selective examination.Exploring its successful experience that worked for us,it could provide some helpful experience for our reform’s plan of self-selection of the subject.High schools should undertake the important responsibility of guidance to guide students to choose subjects.Universities could implement special limit and diversified admission which based on its own characteristics,and we will establish a modern entrance exam system with Chinese characteristics,which would be formed with classification examination,comprehensive assessment,and diversified admission.Government should reform the top-level design reasonably,and social organizations and groups should increase selective examination participation.We need to build a self-selection guidance and support systemfor high schools,universities,government and society.
