Illustration,which is reputed as "the second language of textbooks ",plays an irreplaceable role in Chinese teaching.Illustrations are the most direct and efficient teaching resources in textbooks.For teachers,textbook illustrations are conducive to the creation of lively and interesting classrooms and help them to effectively accomplish their teaching objectives.For students,illustrations can stimulate their interest in learning,activate thinking,develop imagination and help them understand texts,thus promoting the formation of their Chinese literacy and improving Chinese learning ability.However,teachers and students have neglected illustration in the teaching practice.Illustration has not been paid attention to by teachers and students,thus it has not played an auxiliary role in teaching.In order to make the illustrations play their due role in the teaching materials and to enable teachers and students to better use the illustrations,this paper finds common problems and puts forward some thoughts and suggestions by taking Chinese teaching materials of departmental compilation in the junior high school as an example.Based on the methods of questionnaire and literature research,this paper makes an in-depth analysis of Chinese teaching materials of the unified compilation of junior high school.Firstly,the general situation,the number and classification and functions and characteristics of illustrations are described.Secondly,through questionnaires and interviews,the author investigated and analyzed teachers and students' understanding and use of illustrations in Chinese teaching materials of the unified compilation for junior high schools,and found out the problems and reasons.From an objective point of view,the textbook has its own shortcomings,mainly including errors in details,unreasonable arrangement of illustrations,monotonous colors and low printing quality of illustrations.From a subjective point of view,teachers and students do not correctly recognize the importance of illustrations in the process of teaching and learning.In view of the problems existing in the use of illustrations in Chinese teaching materials of the unified compilation for junior high schools,the author makes corresponding reflections and suggestions,mainly from the following three aspects:firstly,illustration editors should attach importance to the editing of illustrations,listen to the opinions of teachers and students,and establish an evaluation and feedback mechanism for the use of illustrations so as to improve the quality of illustrations;secondly,teachers should improve their own quality,set up correct curriculum concepts and make full and reasonable use of illustrations.Lastly,students should improve their awareness of using illustrations,dare to question them,find errors in illustrations,initiatively illustrate the text.Through this way,I hope to change the current situation of illustrations.This paper mainly studies the use of illustrations in Chinese teaching materials of the unified compilation for junior high schools in order to arouse the attention of teachers and students to illustrations in textbooks by making full use of this efficient teaching resource,and assisting them to successfully complete the tasks of teaching and learning.
