The optional class system is a kind of teaching organization form derived from the comprehensive reform of college entrance examination.After the release of the comprehensive reform plan of college entrance examination,Shandong province,as one of the second batch of pilot provinces in the comprehensive reform of college entrance examination and enrollment,actively responded to the policies and requirements of the national reform,continuously promoted the reform of college entrance examination,and finally achieved positive phased results in the application of the optional class system.High school geography,as one of the six reformed subjects,the new teaching organization form is bound to have an impact on it.What are the main aspects of the impact? What are the positive effects and negative effects? How do deal with the negative effects? All these are the main problems to be solved in this study.Taking the freshmen of S middle school in Liaocheng,Shandong province in the fall of 2017 as the research object,this study adopted various methods,including literature research,classroom observation,investigation and statistical analysis,to compare and analyze the changes of students' performance of learning geography in one semester under two different teaching organization on the basis of the optional class system.The results showed that:(1)With the same teachers and the same teaching methods,the geography performance of students under optional class system is improved faster than that of students in fixed class system,while the proportion of students under optional class system who ask teachers questions in class is higher than that of students in fixed class system,and the problem-solving ability of students under optional class system is also enhanced.(2)In terms of discipline and order in geography class,classes adopting optional class system have less discipline than classed of fixed class system.Students' under optional class system satisfaction with class teaching is lower than that of fixed class system,since the former system makes it difficult for many students to discuss problems with their classmates after class.(3)According to the learning situation of geography students in S middle school under optional class system,the author puts forward some suggestions for improving the geography teaching in S middle school mainly from five aspects,which are(1)cultivating students' interests in geography study and mobilizing students' learning enthusiasm,(2)changing the school management model,and setting up new class management norms;,(3)improving the overall quality of the teaching staff,and training new era geography teachers,(4)establishing a geography class suitable for the class mode,(5)building up students' self-management ability,and realizing the transformation from heteronomy to self-discipline.
