Mr.Xia Zengyou(1863-1924),the word Sui Qing,was born in Hangzhou,Zhejiang.A famous historian and history educator during the Republic of China.He made important contributions to the history education in China at an age when the Chinese nation was increasingly perilous and the social situation was changing rapidly,and formed his unique history education thought.This article conducts a comprehensive study of Mr.Xia Zengyou’s historical education materials and other related writings,hoping to fully and profoundly explain his thoughts on history education.The first part of this article discusses the origin and generation of Mr.Xia Zengyou’s historical education thought from the perspective of vertical development,based on his era,academic background and his life experience,combined with his important historical work "Latest Middle School Textbook,Middle School History".The second part explains the historical education thought of Mr.Xia Zengyou theoretically,including his historical evolution theory,historical stage theory,and historical functional theory education thought.The third part analyzes his historical education thought from the practice of Mr.Xia Zengyou,including his emphasis on reform,the causality of the development of events,emphasis on patriotism,emphasis on applying what he has learned,and so on.The last part is a further summary of Mr.Xia Zengyou’s thoughts on history education,and reveal its inspiration to today’s history education.The first is to make an evaluation of its historical education thought from the two aspects of progress and limitations.The second is to reveal the enlightenment of Mr.Xia Zengyou’s historical education thoughts on today’s history education from the perspectives of the compilation of middle school history textbooks,the cultivation of students’ historical concepts,historical thinking and historical consciousness,history education reform,and education function in history teaching.
