Russian contemporary women’s fiction flourished in the late 1980 s and early 1990 s.Maria Metlitskaya is considered one of the most talented contemporary female writers of this period.Her works are simple,yet thought-provoking.This practice report is selected from 《The Strangers》 in the novella collection 《Orange Forest》 published in 2021 by the famous Russian writer Maria Metlitskaya.The article mainly tells the story of a couple who have been married for many years without having a child and decide to adopt a child.After adopting the boy Mishka,the heroine Lilia cannot cope with changes in her life and decides to leave home to live alone.The hero ultimately met a new love while growing up with Mishka,but unexpectedly learned that Lilia passed away unexpectedly.This novel has a compelling plot and a meaningful ending that makes readers think about the meaning of love and responsibility in life.Based on the analysis of the characteristics of the original text,this report explores the translation of words and sentences using methods such as transliteration,sentence-combining,and inversion.The translator hope to accumulate translation experience through this practice activity and lay the foundation for becoming an excellent translator in the future.At present there is no Chinese translation of this novel,the translated text can provide a reference for readers interested in contemporary Russian women’s literature.
