The art of painting has been passed down and developed for a long time. The traditional realistic painting that we usually understand is mainly to highlight the three-dimensional sense of the picture, while the modern non-realistic painting often shows a clear flatness. In fact,it is not the case.Flatness is also included in some traditional realistic paintings. These works incorporate the shape of the object image, the distribution of light and shadow, and the inter-connected mass surfaces in the relationship of the picture into a planar composition with a clear sense of hierarchy and a relatively clear geometric shape. But this point is often overlooked, and people only pay attention to the figurative details.Flatness and realism complement each other in the picture, are related to each other but are different, but at the same time both exist to serve the whole picture. These two different expression techniques can bring different visual effects to the viewer, and the combination of the two,the confrontation between rational shaping and perceptual expression, affects the viewer’s true inner feelings. How to fully express flatness in realistic painting has always been a topic of research and discussion by scholars. From the simple combination of the two in the early stage to the continuous addition of different expression techniques in the later period, the combination of different techniques is all that the painter has added subjective emotions and thoughts to his traditional techniques,so that his techniques are no longer restricted to traditional techniques.Realism.Starting from the author’s creative practice, this paper explores the rich expression of planeness in realistic paintings with the theme of the two real and virtual worlds of villains and adults. The author fully applies the two techniques to the picture, expressing the continuous exploration and thinking of oil painting creation.
