Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky(May 7,1840—November 6,1893),a great Russian composer and music educator in the 19 th century, was known as the "Master of Russian Music " And "Melody Master",he is the founder of Russian folk music and Western classical music. In <18 Piano Sketches(Op.72)>,there are 7 Dance Music,4 Character Pieces and 7 Title Pieces. Each piece is of different length and has its own characteristics. From such genre classification,we can guess that when Tchaikovsky created this set of works,he intended to "gather together" the characteristic styles of piano pieces in The Romantic Period. In this work,Tchaikovsky's piano creation techniques and style characteristics and the use of materials have not changed significantly, but the musical image and musical atmosphere of each piece are different. The author studied and analyzed "18 Piano Piece(Op.72)" from three aspects of musical genre, artistic expression and performance techniques through reading various literatures and her own performance practice.Through understanding the creation background of this work, the author,on the basis of his own performance practice, puts forward some valuable views on the polyphonic texture, arpeggio, octave, grace note and other playing skills in this work,as well as the artistic interpretation of the work. The author hopes that this study can help players to have a deeper understanding of Op.72 and understand the emotional connotation of the music and the meaning behind it.At the same time, this paper also provides some references for the performance of Op.72 and helps the performers to solve some technical difficulties encountered in the actual performance.
