The literary writing of the city of Harbin is an important part of Chi Zi-jian's three major literary maps. She builds the overall landscape of the city from the interplay of nature, humanities, and politics, and presents the political history of the coexistence of northern geographical features,European-style human landscapes, and colonization and immigration. In the context of Harbin's overall geography,Chi explores the coexistence of the East and the West, tolerance, spiritual pursuit, and the cultural heritage of the art world contained therein.Through historical narratives and realistic memories, the author constructs the historical Harbin;through realistic literary imagination, the author portrays the ordinary and legendary Harbin of the city.In the Harbin series,Chi explores the complexity of Harbin's urban immigrant composition in relation to its urban spiritual culture, vividly depicting the heterogeneous characteristics of Harbin's immigrant urban culture. The bandit men of the northeastern countryside, the straightforward and kind-hearted women, the generations of Russians, the displaced Jews, the criminal war criminals and their complicated descendants, all these people of Harbin form the core of the city's destiny and spirit. To Harbin,a city full of exotic flavor,Chi Zi-jian,from unfamiliar to familiar, from rejection to intimacy,in a gentle tone, insisted on an objective and rational creative posture, with a distinct literary geographical awareness to build the literary landscape of Harbin city, providing another possibility of interpretation for the local writing path of Harbin.
