He Xun,as poet in the Liang Dynasty of the Southern dynasties,encountered difficulties in his official career,which could be attributed to restrictions of his parentage,the helpless of untimely life as well as individual character.However,these abundant life experience also made He Xun stay away from the upper political center,get rid of the magnificent poetry style of the literary world at that time,then write a large number of pure and natural poems.These poems delivered a very significant influence for later generations in terms of emotional connotation,rhythm,poetry style and so on.He Xun's five-character poems were mostly written and created during the Tianjian period of Liang Dynasty.He Xun had to left home many times to earn his living,which put him in a vagrant state,hence his poems during this period also showed a diversified trend,which can be generally divided into gift-giving poems,traveling poems,object-chanting poems,imitation poems,and love poems.As will be described below,gift-giving poems were mostly written to friends and family brothers,via expressing exhortations or sending loves from a distance;traveling poems also were described travel experiences and showed fetters and feelings,render becoming an influential text supports for studying his life and thoughts;object-chanting poems were also unique,not only had a wide range of subjects,but also expressed delicate emotions;imitation poems were or imitating ancient things to convey meaning,or on behalf of people to convey feelings,and were in the same line with Yuefu poems since the Han and Wei Dynasties.His poetry narration was also quite distinctive,and the romantic thoughts reflected in the love poems enriched the emotional connotation of He Xun's five-character poems.In these poems,they concluded a number of joint-line poems by completed with others.Through these poems,we can understand the communication between He Xun,Fan Yun,Liu Qi and other poets at same years.He Xun's five-character poems has been deeply influenced by Yongming style,and had a position that cannot be ignored in the process of poetic rhythmization.On the one hand,He Xun actively explored and practiced the Yongming style,and his five-character poems showed obvious tendency of standardization in the aspects of rhyme and the system of articles.On the other hand,He Xun was good at tempering the words,pursuing the exact duality,paying attention to allusions,as well as selecting appropriate imageries to create poetry scenes.His five-character poems not only maintained a unique purity,but also presented an impassioned emotion.In particular,He Xun's five-character poems also were verified a profound impact on later generations.His poems and himself often appeared in the poems of later generations as cites and quotations.Owing to poet critics of the past have also given positive comments on himself and his poems,some recognition and admiration were confirmed by poets of the subsequent generations.Meanwhile,his five-character four-sentence poem also played significant roles in the finalization of the five-character quatrain system in the Tang Dynasty in terms of language style and phonological rhythm.In addition,a plum poem of the title for "Yangzhou Facao Plum Blossoms" has a critical influence on the poetry creation of later generations."Yangzhou","Plum Blossom" and "He Xun" often appeared in posterity poems,especially plum-chanting poems,which has become a unique phenomenon of literary history.
