The Application And Performance Interpretation Of Peking Opera Elements In "Shengdan Jing Mo Chou"

It has been the dream of Chinese musicians in the past century to establish a Chinese piano school and create Chinese-style piano pieces.There is little doubt that it’s one of the effective ways to create Chinese-style piano music via the absorption of opera elements involving Peking opera.Piano piece-Sheng,Dan,Jing,Mo,Chou(Sheng,male roles;Dan,female roles;Jing,roles with painted faces;Mo,the same as“Sheng”;Chou,a comic character)by Wang A Mao is a Chinese-style piano piece aiming to apply elements of Peking Opera.It contains a "theme" and five movements respectively demonstrating the five roles of Chinese Peking Opera: Sheng,Dan,Jing,Mo,Chou,presenting a strong style of Peking opera music,and revealing a slew of combination possibilities of piano music and Peking opera.Three chapters are divided in this article: Chapter 1 mainly has a brief introduction of basic characteristics of the piano piece-Sheng,Dan,Jing,Mo,Chou in the creation context of Chinese piano music fusing Peking Opera style,and basically defines it as a piano piece with Chinese style.Chapter 2 analyzes each movement of the piano musicSheng,Dan,Jing,Mo,Chou,and corresponding instrumental performances.Chapter3 more explores the significance of Peking Opera for the creation of Chinese-style piano piece,and discusses briefly how to apply musical materials,Ban and Qiang(the structure of traditional Chinese drama)of Peking Opera,and how to demonstrate the performance sound fields and different roles of Peking Opera styles amid the creation of Chinese-style piano piece based on Sheng,Dan,Jing,Mo,Chou and other piano pieces involving Peking Opera elements.Peking Opera,which is extensive and profound,has injected new vitality into Chinese piano music and brought multiple possibilities for the creation of Chinese-style piano music.The creation of the piano music-Sheng,Dan,Jing,Mo,Chou,in this regard,provides a reference for the creation of Chinese-style piano pieces and the nationalization and diversification of piano art.
