Xu Tong Documentary Narrative Space Design Research And Application

Xu Tong is regarded as a representative of independent documentary directors in China.His works includes rich social issues,which have been widely concerned and discussed.He uses ways of storytelling combined stories and documentaries.A large number of close-ups and dramatic shots can not only arouse the emotions of the audience,but also create a narrative space,which will achieve the purpose of its low-level narration in a large part.Based on the film narrative space theory,the thesis will carefully read the works of Xu Tong," Wheat Field" "Fortune Telling" and "Old Tang",and finds three regular features of its form composition,emotional connotation and design techniques.Its formal composition is real and rough,which is composed of mixed geographical space,vivid characters and direct metaphorical space.Its emotional content is abundant,which shows the weakness,tenacity and calmness of the characters.Its design technique is delicate and has a sense of rhythm.Then,this thesis reviews the narrative space design of Xu Tong's documentary,points out its design defects of subjective intervention and rough picture texture,and puts forward the film reconstruction method of moderate subjective control and color and light and shadow assistance.Finally,based on the above research and combined with the theme of Starlight,this thesis applies audio-visual matching,color contrast and other design strategies to the creation,and obtains the effect that documentary objective documentary and artistry reflect each other,so that its voice drives space orientation,color renders space atmosphere and space metaphorically expresses emotion.
