Colloquial Chinese,a primary oral textbook,which is collaborated by a Chinese teacher Ping-cheng T'ung(1938-2020)and a British Sinologist D.E.Pollard(1937-)in 1982 when he was teaching at the Asian African College,University of London.The textbook is first published by Routledge press in 1982.Since the rise of Chinese education,comprehensive or specialized Chinese teaching materials have emerged in an endless stream,and this set of local teaching materials has been used by the Chinese major of Asian African university since its publication.Although some scholars have studied the advantages of this textbook in terms of interest and organizational structure,we still can not see the whole picture of this textbook.The author tries to start with the arrangement of the textbook content,and make a comparative analysis of two sets of primary oral Chinese textbooks published in China in different periods.By using the static description method,statistics method,icon method and comparative analysis method,the author analyzes the vocabulary from the perspective of vocabulary This paper investigates the three sets of primary oral English textbooks from the aspects of grammar,text and practice,and probes into the reasons for their enduring popularity.
