Phillumeny is a sticker which pasted or directly printed on matchbox.It integrates the characteristics of the times,design aesthetics,and folk culture.It's traditional and distinctive artistic image and various forms of expression reflect the struggle and integration of visual design in the period of the Republic of China,and also record the development and changes of China's industry,commerce,history and culture.Taking phillumeny of the Republic of China and the late Qing Dynasty as the main research object.Through literature research,comparative induction,case analysis and other methods,I analyze it from the perspectives of theme,pattern,font design,layout,color and so on.And I will summarize the design rules and methods in the form of chart,in order to enlighten the innovative thinking of modern art design.People's understanding of phillumeny has both humanistic emotion and cultural identity.As an adjunct of matches,under the background of contemporary gradual disappearance,people seek the breakthrough and innovation of phillumeny on the basis of tradition;explore the new path of phillumeny and other design related and continuous development;in the context of the New Retro wave,extend the visual design of this classic culture,these are the main purposes of this paper.This study is divided into four parts: the first part explains the change of phillumeny's style from its historical background and social factors;the second part analyzes the design characteristics and rules of phillumeny in the three stages of "Westernization","localization" and "modernization";The fourth part through two levels that the old elements to innovate and help the retro elements return to the trend position,in the shaping of the sense of time and form and interactive communication,dynamic deduction,redesign innovation practice of font,pattern and new media application for phillumeny.
