| Herbert von Karajan,one of the greatest conductors of the 20 th century,has the title of "Emperor of Conducting".In the 1960 s,1970s and 1980 s,he conducted the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and recorded three complete Beethoven symphonies.In this paper,I will examine Beethoven’s Symphony No.72,op.92,A major <1811-1812> as an example.I will analyze recordings from different periods,and combined with the score,I will carefully compare and analyze the tempo,strength and other aspects.This paper will explore the changes of Karajan’s conducting style by considering his background and life experience.This paper is divided into four chapters.The first chapter discusses Karajan,Beethoven and the Seventh Symphony.It mainly introduces the life and works of the conductor and composer.The second chapter explores the interpretation of the score of Beethoven’s Symphony No.7.The chapter performs a total spectrum analysis to prepare for the next study of conducting style.The third chapter compares the conducting styles in the three recordings of Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony by Karajan.This chapter is the core of the thesis.The fourth chapter summarizes and draws a conclusion on Karajan’s conducting style using the comparative analysis of the third chapter.This paper can allow orchestral conducting students to learn the general applicability of conducting methods,including how to form their own conducting style. |
