The relationship between art and politics is a classic problem in literary criticism. The traditional thinking of western Marxism on this issue is based in the concept of ideology proposed by Marx.French contemporary theoretician Ranciere advocated the pursuit of equality. He juxtaposed art and politics through the concept of aesthetics and formed his unique art-political theory. It is worth noting that what Ranciere said about art and politics is totally different from what we usually know, especially from what western Marxism defines as art and politics.Looking back on his academic career,he has a close relationship with western Marxism. He used to be an apprentice of western Marxism, and then decided to separate from it and embark on his own unique academic path. Therefore, this paper intends to start from the relationship between art and politics in the tradition of western Marxist literary criticism, and try to analyze how Ranciere,on the basis of western Marxism, establishes his own art-political theory by examining, referring to,criticizing and even drawing a clear line with western Marxism. The first chapter mainly compares the thinking about the relationship between art and politics in the tradition of western Marxism and the thought of Ranciere.First of all,it briefly combs the discussion of Marxism on the relationship between art and politics since Marx, and emphasizes the role of ideology in the thinking of Marxism. Then it summarizes the new definition of "politics" and"art" and his art-political concept. In the end,it summarizes the similarities between the two kinds of thinking are that they never regard art as an independent object, howerer, art and politics are closely linked? The difference is that art and politics in western Marxist tradition are put into the concept of ideology for thinking. On the other hand, based on Ranciere's proposition of equality and his unique theory of 'distribution'of sensible,he found the bridge of aesthetics for his unique concept of art and politics, and then formed his unique concept of art-political theory. In the second chapter,we will continue to explore the relationship between Ranciere and the tradition of western Marxist literary criticism, starting from the critical practice of Ranciere on the literary theory of the three predecessors of western Marxism. The three predecessors of western Marxism are:the enlightener of Ranciere 's academic career and the object of his theoretical "patricide":Althusser,;Bertolt Brecht, the model of Marxist dramatist:Bertolt Brecht;one of the representatives of Sima:Benjamin. In Ranciere's view, these three predecessors' theories all inherited the distinction concept of" a wrong problem" in the Marxist tradition, which resulted in more profound inequality.Althusser distinguishes science from ideology, which leads to the authoritative position of intellectuals.Bertolt Brecht thought that the audience was "passive",so he wanted to"liberate" the audience, but caused the "liberated" audience.Benjamin transplanted the concept of productivity and production relationship into art,but he got excessive"technology determinism".This distinction is what Ranciere's equality "opposes".But in thinking about the pursuit of equality and democracy,Rancière and these predecessors have the same way.The third chapter focuses on the most unique theory of artistic regimes in Ranciere's art-political concept. And according to the theoretical characteristics of Ranciere, that is,he does not have a systematic theoretical and conceptual framework, but uses critical practice to weave themes and derive major issues from the detailed analysis of specific objects. Then it introduces the critical practice of the three arts of literature, film and decorative art,in order to further understand the art-political concept of Ranciere.
