The Prague Quadrennial was founded according to the principles of the St.Paul Biennial,but it is quite different from the St.Paul Biennial in its characteristics.The latter highly praises the fine arts of stage art,while the former aims at seeking characteristics of stage art itself and promoting that stage art cannot be separated from the director and all other drama parts,attaching emphasis on their comprehensiveness.Besides,in the St.Paul Biennial,stage art is only one of the contents,while the Prague Quadrennial is a completely specialized stage art exhibition.The emergence of the Prague Quadrennial marked a turning point in the history of contemporary theater.The stage art is displayed in the exhibition hall as a part of theatrical performance together with other components of the composition,which also shows the basic character of the performance.The Prague Quadrennial begins an attempt to show theater through stage art.
