In 2019,the comic work-Green Book,directed by Peter Farrelly,reflecting American racial discrimination,won the 91 th Academy Awards for best picture,best original screenplay and best actor,in total 5 awards and nominations.Meanwhile,it also won many other honors,including the 76 th Golden Globe of American film and television for the best picture,which brought him into the eyes of a worldwide audience.He also won the 34 th Razzies for the worst director,and was called "the vulgar comedy expert " by the audience.The Green Book,whose style is very different from his previous works,also reflects the continuation and inheritance of the director’s individual creation style.In the perspective of thematic research,the paper,by comparing the Peter Farrelly’s early vulgar comedy movies with the Green Book,analyzes the origin of Farrelly’s movie theme,rheological characteristics and the kernel spirit,and explores its contradictions and contact existing between the form and connotation.In addition,by discovering the theoretical and practical value of Peter Farrelly ’s film themes,this paper also provides a new reference for film creators on how to improve the purport meaning of the theme in specific practice.
