In this translation practice, the author selected an academic paper in management field which is entitled Diversity Initiative Effectiveness: A Typological Theory of Unintended Consequences as translation text. This text was published by Lisa M.Leslie in the Academy of Management Review in 2018.This text mainly focuses on the study of the effectiveness of diversity initiatives, which has great implications on academic research and application. This report was based on this translation practice and the description of the translation process. It also analyzed some main issues in academic translation. In the process of translation, according to the specific characteristics of the original text, the author mainly analyzed the translation of the words, the English parallelism structures, and the English double attributive clauses.First of all,the author mainly applied extension of word meaning, borrow translation to translate the technical terms, applied the translation method of determining the meaning of words according to the linguistic context to translate the viewpoint vocabularies, and applied the Chinese four-character idioms to translate English metaphorical words.Towards the two types of English parallelism structures, the author applied the methods of extension, conversion, literal translation, combination to translate. Finally, the author applied division, coordinate structures, the structure of“not only...but also...” to deal with the the English double attributive clauses.According to the different types of words,English parallelism structures and English double attributive clauses, the author made a summary on corresponding translation methods, and then wrote this practice report based on it.The author hopes that this report will later play as a guiding role in the translation of similar texts. |
