Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of acupuncture and moxibustion in the treatment of hemifacial spasm. It uses meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy of acupuncture and moxibustion in the treatment of hemifacial spasm in strict accordance with evidence-based medical standards.Evidence-based basis.Material and method:Two independent staff members strictly followed the inclusion and exclusion criteria to search the Chinese Journal Full-text Database(CNKI),China Biomedical Literature Database Online Edition(CBM),Wanfang Date(Wangfang Date),Chongqing Weipu Chinese Science and Technology Database(VIP),Pub Med,Embase,Cochrane Library database, select the publication time of the literature from the establishment of the database to February 2021,on the RCT of acupuncture and moxibustion treatment of hemifacial spasm. After the quality evaluation of the retrieved RCTs,a meta-analysis was carried out.The results of forest plots were tested for publication bias,RCTs were analyzed for heterogeneity, and different therapies were analyzed for subgroups.Results:1.A total of 32 RCTs and 2251 patients were included, but the quality of RCTs was poor2.The overall effective rate forest diagram shows that the curative effect of acupuncture on hemifacial spasm is better than all control groups including western medicine and sham acupuncture [RR=1.31,95% CI(1.25,1.36),(P<0.00001)].3.Subgroup analysis forest plot shows that only acupuncture is more effective than all control groups including western medicine and sham acupuncture in the treatment of hemifacial spasm [RR=1.31,95% CI(1.20,1.42),(P<0.00001)].4.Subgroup analysis Forest diagram shows that the curative effect of acupuncture combined with traditional Chinese medicine on hemifacial spasm is better than that of western medicine control group [RR=1.39,95% CI(1.24,1.55),(P<0.00001)].5.Subgroup analysis Forest diagram shows that acupuncture combined with other therapies is more effective than the control group including western medicine [RR=1.30,95% CI(1.23,1.38),(P<0.00001)].6.The forest plot of subgroup analysis showed that the efficacy of moxibustion on hemifacial spasm was not statistically different from that of the western medicine group [RR=1.14,95%CI(0.96,1.35),(P=0.12)].Conclusion:1.Acupuncture is better than western medicine and fake acupuncture, whether it is used alone or combined with other therapies to treat hemifacial spasm, and it is worthy of clinical promotion.2.The efficacy of moxibustion in the treatment of hemifacial spasm is similar to that of carbamazepine tablets. From the perspective of health economics, considering the characteristics of low cost and fewer side effects of moxibustion,it is also worth clinical promotion.
