The ancient district of a city often records all the marks of a city's development and evolution, and is also the most complete and comprehensive area for preserving the city's landscape, historical and cultural features, and is the place where the city's genes were first born.Since the beginning of the city,Jinan was built under the mountains and rivers, and was built near the water, because of the springs, and under the idea of traditional landscape creation,it created a symbiotic and intermingled urban development mode with nature, and gave the ancient city the landscape characteristics of “city as garden”.However, because of the lack of in-depth research on the landscape and cultural and historical background of the ancient city,it is difficult to find a balance between conservation and development in the actual work, resulting in over-protection of the landscape space of the ancient city, homogenization of the landscape, concealment of traditional culture, and deterioration of the ecological environment. How to achieve holistic protection and innovative development of the scenic space of the ancient city in the future urban development, and to re-excavate and highlight the regional cultural characteristics,is the realistic demand of Jinan's scenic and landscape heritage work.In this thesis, the concept of genes in biology applies to the study of Jinan's landscape heritage.Landscape genes,as genetic material, carry landscape and cultural information that is further expressed as landscape features of the ancient city.Based on the concept of biology and the concept of genes in urban design,it is proposed that the study of landscape genes in the ancient city needs to go through three steps:identification and extraction, analysis and evaluation, and inheritance and control,to explore the problems and causes of the expression results of the extracted landscape genes, and to further propose strategies for the inheritance of the ancient city landscape.Based on the above, the research of this thesis comprises three parts: The first part, through the investigation and research of relevant literature and the preliminary investigation of the ancient city and its surrounding environment, the foundation and evolution history of the ancient city of Jinan are summarized and summarized, and the environmental background of the formation of Jinan landscape genes is derived; The second part, firstly, based on the results of the basic research, the landscape genes of the ancient city are divided into urban axis genes,city-water relationship genes, street space genes and spring space genes.Secondly, based on the results of the basic research, classifies the landscape genes of the ancient city into urban axis genes,city-water relationship genes, street space genes and spring space genes, and then identifies and extracts these four types of genes by using historical identification method, feature identification method, perception identification method and quantitative identification method. Finally, the extracted landscape genes were analyzed and evaluated from both material space evaluation and social cognitive evaluation, and it was obtained that some of the landscape genes have low spatial integrity, low functional compound, and insufficient social cognition. In the third part,in view of the existing problems and inheritance dilemmas of the landscape genes in the ancient city, three paths are proposed for the inheritance of the landscape genes, and the inheritance strategies of the landscape genes are proposed from three perspectives: overall protection, spatial activation, and policy orientation,in order to realize the scientific and sustainable inheritance and development of the landscape space in the ancient city in the future urban development.
