The scenery belts of the riversides of Huaihua City(SBRHC) are important recreational sites for its citizens.This manuscript investigated the landscape plants communities among the riversides of both Taiping Brook(TB) and the Wushui River(WR). Furthermore, on the basis of the feedback of questionnaires from 200 different citizens, we analyzed and evaluated the landscape pattern of the color-leafed plants from the perspectives of Landscape Architecture and Ecology. We hope this paper could pave the way for the possible transformation of the landscape of the riverside. The main conclusions are the follows.Firstly, we found 37 species of CLPs that belong to 25 families after the field investigation of the SBRHC, most of the CLPs are from the families of Osmamthus, Rosaceae, Magnoliaceae, Hamamelidaceae.10 kinds of striped-color plants and 5 kinds of ever-color plants were found in TB section, account for 47.6% and 23.81% respectively.11 kinds of autumn-color plants and 8 kinds of striped-color plants were found in WR section, account for 35.48% and 25.81% respectively.Secondly, from the perspective of the biological characteristics, the majority of the CLPs in SBRHC are shrubberies which account for 54.55% in the CLPs of TB section, and the macrophanerophytes accounts for 22.73, the percent of herbages and vines are 13.64% and 9.09% respectively. The percent of shrubberies and macrophanerophytes in WR section are 54.84% and 38.71% respectively, no vines were found.Thirdly, the survey indicate that performance of the scenery in TB section outmatched that in WR section in every sense. Based on the feedback of the tourists, TB section scored 86.1,85.3,85.6,88.7 and 85.4 from 5 aspects included the greening coverage, plant maintaining, planing and designing, CLPs performance and overall performance respectively. In contrast, WR scored only 85.4,73.9,75.5,75.4 and 74.3 in those 5 aspects.Fourthly, there are 3 problems that could influence the scenery of SBRHC. To begin with. there is insufficient CLPs resources in HC so that the species of the CLPs are scarcely and the landscape application methods are monotonous. The 2nd reason is the plants allocation is not proper and landscape designing is far from skilled, as a consequence, the scenery of SBRHC was strikingly affected by those factors. Lastly but not the least, the improperly management and poorly maintaining of the plants in SBRHC also greatly decrease the performance of CLPs.Finally, in order to solve those defects in the planing and the designing of the plant landscape of the SBRHC, this palper proposed several practical suggestions and protocols which may successfully crack down those problems in the near future.
