An Exploration Of Traffic Planning In The Historic City Of Venice

The transportation planning has a very profound impact on the development of the city.With the continuous expansion of the city and the improvement of people's living standards,the number of cars in many cities is gradually increasing.However,the increase of cars has many negative effects and brings many problems to the cities and people's daily life.These problems are particularly prominent in the cities with high population density.The historical city of Venice,the "water city" in Italy,has planned the transportation mode of "water transportation+walking" according to the characteristics of itself.Except for the planned vehicle stops at the west side and entrance of the city,no vehicles are allowed to enter the other areas.The only means of transportation is ship.There are no broad roads in the city,but on average,over 100000 people live and tour in the limited city.This kind of transportation mode has its own characteristics.The study focuses on the forms and characteristics of internal and external traffic organization of the Venice historical city.During the six months of exchange study in Venice,the external and internal transportation systems were investigated in detail as far as possible.The study analyzes the organization form of external passenger and freight transportation,the connection between the historical city and inland,various water traffic organization forms,characteristics of pedestrian system and the construction of pedestrian environment,the connection between water traffic and pedestrian,and the connection of traffic inside and outside.After the study,it can be found that the transportation planning of Venice historical city fully combines the current situation and characteristics of the city itself.After the modernization development,the "water transportation+walking" transportation mode and the historical atmosphere have achieved "win-win",creating a safe traffic environment.A variety of external communication methods ensure the accessibility of the urban area;public transport is encouraged to travel in the urban area.The complete and closely related public transport system and pedestrian system are planned to create a very comfortable pedestrian space.Based on the research and analysis of the transportation planning of Venice's historical city,the summary of its experience and the analysis of the research results can provide some reference for the other cities.
