The natural science method with quantitative method as one of its core features has laid a solid methodological foundation for natural science research.Under the guidance of this method,natural science research has made remarkable achievements.Social science expects to promote the progress of social phenomenon research by introducing this quantitative research method of natural phenomena.However,whether quantitative methods are applicable to the study of social phenomena,and to what extent are applicable to the study of social phenomena,this question has always been an important debate in the study of philosophy of science.Naturalism advocates the use of natural scientific methods and theories in social phenomena,which can not only promote the full progress of social phenomena research,but more importantly,it can bridge the gap between natural phenomena and social phenomena,thereby constructing a unified naturalization Human knowledge system.On the other hand,anti-naturalism opposes this claim.They take the content and nature of the mind as the core,trying to demonstrate the inherent difference between natural and social phenomena from various levels such as ontology,epistemology,and methodology.However,this article believes that on the basis of insisting on the subjectivity and initiative of the mind,it is still possible to carry out quantitative research on social phenomena to a certain extent.First of all,this paper studies in detail the historical establishment process of natural science quantitative methods,summarizes and analyzes the core connotation of quantitative methods,which is characterized by establishing indicators to achieve quantitative descriptions of phenomena,and further establishing mathematical relationships between indicators to form mathematical models to complete the comparison.Research on the quantitative characterization of phenomena.Then,on the premise of clarifying the core methods of quantitative research,we will thoroughly investigate how the quantitative research of social phenomena is established and developed in historical practice.By comparing the differences between natural phenomena and social phenomena,it specifically proposes the operational difficulties of quantitative research on social phenomena.In response to these difficulties,it is pointed out that the core task of quantitative research on social phenomena is to quantify the externalized behavior performance characteristics,and then grasp the psychological characteristics and laws of individuals or groups.The method of clarifying the study of social phenomena is to establish an index system for each core element of social phenomena to realize a comprehensive and complete quantitative representation of social phenomena.Next,further demonstrate the necessity and effectiveness of the index system method in the quantitative research of social phenomena.The key to adopting the index system method in the quantitative study of social phenomena lies in the complex characteristics of social phenomena.Society is an open and complex giant system.The various factors in social phenomena present a non-linear and non-reductive characteristic,and the quantitative method of the index system can describe this characteristic to a certain extent and touch the descriptive boundary.The effectiveness of the index system method is reflected in the inherent regularity,external measurability,continuity and compound ontology of social phenomena.On the basis of theoretical argumentation,further specify the methodological principal requirements of the index system in practice.Immediately afterwards,this article uses the construction of a representative Internet religious information indicator system as a case study to discuss how to construct an indicator system for religious beliefs and emotions that are opposed to scientific rationality.In the last chapter of this article,the epistemological research on the index system of social phenomena is carried out.From the aspects of the relationship between the index and reality,the index measurement problem,the index and cognitive problem,etc.,the index system method is multidimensionally revealed in the epistemology philosophical issues involved,through systematic epistemological reflection,in order to further promote the development of quantitative research on social phenomenon index systems.
