A Study On The Conflict In Intergenerational Cooperative Parenting Of Urban Well-educated Families

With the transformation of society and the change of family structure,intergenerational cooperative parenting has become the mainstream choice of urban families.When the "experience parenting" represented by grandparents meets the "scientific parenting" represented by parents,especially when the parents are more educated,the conflict of parenting concepts between the two generations is more obvious,and the process of intergenerational cooperative parenting is full of contradictions and conflicts.This study discusses this kind of conflict.This study faces the following questions: what are the reasons for the formation of intergenerational cooperative parenting among urban highly educated families in China,what characteristics are presented,what conflicts are displayed in the process of parenting,what are the ways to deal with conflicts,and what are the factors that affect the handling of conflicts.This paper adopts the qualitative research paradigm,through semi-structured interviews,taking the formation and development process of intergenerational cooperative parenting as clues,to study the conflicts of intergenerational cooperative parenting in urban high-educated families and how to deal with them.This study finds that the intergenerational cooperative parenting of urban high-educated families shows the characteristics of nuclear family-based,dual-line support,young mothers’ discourse power increased,grandparents’ discourse power decreased and the contradiction between husband and wife parenting weakened.As a result of institutionalization and individual choice,there are many contradictions in the process of intergenerational cooperative parenting,which are mainly reflected in three aspects: whether to take care of it,who will take care of it and how to take care of it.However,restricted by the practical dilemma,the grandparents and parents can only choose to accept and deal with the conflicts and maintain the intergenerational cooperation.Urban families bridge conflicts through husbands’ mediation,accommodation from both sides,and appeal to authority,so that intergenerational cooperative parenting can go on smoothly.At the same time,money,ability,and emotion are intertwined to influence the handling of conflict.
