| Resilience is the ability of individuals to adapt well to adverse circumstances and recover quickly after setbacks and adversity.Resilience is influenced by environmental factors, especially parenting style.Although there are high and low levels of mental resilience, both low and high levels of mental resilience are adaptive, reflecting the efforts of the organism to survive. The adaptive characteristics of low level mental resilience are cognitive overvigilance, high attention to the environment, which makes individuals unable to engage in meaningful reflection and cognitive reappraisal and fall into cognitive rigidity, and they are more susceptible to psychological pressure. The ability of mentalization allows individuals to adjust their perception of stress by participating in social networks and obtaining explicit cues of precise cognition, thus improving their mental resilience.Mentalizing ability may be a protective factor in the effect of parenting style on resilience. Therefore, this study will explore the relationship between high school students’ mental resilience, parenting style and mentalization, and examine the mediating role of mentalization in the relationship between parenting and mental resilience in order to determine whether the parenting style and mentalization have a significant impact on mental resilience. This study is divided into two parts. In the first part,881 students were surveyed using the Revision of the short-form Egna Mirmenav Bamdoms Uppfostran(s-EMBU),the Chinese Version of reflective Function Questionnaire for Youth(RFQ-C)and the Adolescent Mental Resilience Scale. In the second part,32 students were selected for intervention through a self-designed mentalized group education course. And the main findings are as follows:1.There are gender differences in parenting styles.Compared with girls, boys experience more rejection and less emotional warmth from fathers, and receive less emotional warmth from mothers. In addition, compared with the non-only-child,the only-child gets more emotional warmth from both father and mother.2.Girls in high school tend to have a higher level of mentalization than boys. The mentalization level of girls increased significantly with the grade, while the mentalization level of boys did not change significantly during the three years of high school.3.There is no significant difference in the scores of psychological resilience in grade and gender, but boys do better than girls in emotional control, while girls do better than boys in interpersonal assistance.4.Emotional warmth from both parents are significantly positively correlated with the level of mentalization in high school students, while paternal overprotection, maternal rejection and maternal overprotection are significantly negatively correlated with the level of mentalization in high school students, while paternal rejection is not correlated with the level of mentalization.5.Paternal emotional warmth and maternal emotional warmth can partially enhance children’s mental resilience by improving their level of mentalization, while maternal rejection, paternal overprotection and maternal overprotection can affect children’s mental resilience by hindering their development of mentalization.6.After the mentalization group education course, students’ mentalization level is improved, and their mental resilience is also improved, which is manifested in the ability of emotional control, positive cognition and interpersonal assistance.7.Maternal rejection and maternal overprotection are risk factors for increased levels of mentalization. |
