| In modern society where production conditions are everywhere,life itself is shown as a huge accumulation of spectacle.The spectacle is the social relationship between people mediated by images.It achieves comprehensive control over modern people by dominating most of the time outside production.At present,video games have become a major recreational activity in people’s non-working time,which has produced a large number of female body spectacles and become an important place for spectacle performance.This paper aims to analyze the construction process of the female body spectacle in the context of video games.The first chapter analyzes the structure of electronic games.As the production and performance place of spectacle,the video game is a half-real world,which contains real rules and fictional narratives.Players in the real world act by the characters in the game world,but at the same time,their actions are subject to the rules and narratives of the game.The second chapter analyzes the female body image in video games and analyzes the construction of the female body spectacle from the perspective of "seeing" in video games.In video games,what players can see are the bodies of female characters,who are the visual products of male dominance.Slender and curvy figures are a necessity,and the shaping of their bodies and identities reflects gender discrimination and stereotypes,whether benign or malicious.The third chapter analyzes the consumption of the female body in video games and analyzes the construction of the female body spectacle on the level of "playing" in video games.Under the guidance of game rules and narrative,players complete the consumption of female bodies by killing or transforming them and participate in the construction of the female body spectacle in video games.The fourth chapter analyzes the ideological function of the female body spectacle.The female body not only has the use-value as consumer goods but also is the carrier of power,reflecting the patriarchy’s discipline on the female body.The fifth chapter explains the problems existing in the female body spectacle constructed in current video games and points out that the de-sexualization of the female body in video games,the increase of player initiative,and the development of theories and practices of female liberation outside of games are possible paths to break the domination of the spectacle. |
