| Internet-addicted college students often show poor self-control,which has a negative impact on their academic performance and quality of life.Delay discounting,a measure of impulsivity and a sensitive indicator to distinguish addicts from normal people, refers to a psychological phenomenon in which an individual’s estimate of the value of a future reward decreases with time.Recently, studies have begun to focus on the characteristics of delay discounting among substance dependence, online game dependence, gambling dependence and other dependent people who have not developed addiction yet but have potential addiction risk.Internet dependent college students are those who score between 46 and 53 in the Chinese Internet Addiction Scale revised by Bai Yu and Fan Fumin, the amount of Internet dependence is bigger than addicts, but their characteristics of delay discounting and its influencing factors remain unclear. Therefore, study 1 explores the characteristics of delay discounting among internet-dependent college students. In study 2,based on the dual-system model of self-control,the factors affecting the delay discounting of internet dependent college students are explored from the perspective of both working memory resolution(cold processing system)and sadness(hot processing system).Study1,is abetween subject design(participants: internet dependent colleges, normal colleges). We distributed Chinese Internet Addiction Scale(CIAS-R)(n=530),then selected internet-dependent college students(n=59)and normal college students(n=59)and let them fill in the paper version of the Money Choice Questionare(MCQ).The independent sample t test was performed on k0(the delay discount rate after natural logarithm transformation). The results showed that there was a significant difference in k0 between Internet dependence and normal college students. The k0 of the internet dependent group was significantly higher than that of the normal group. In experiment 1 of study 2,the visual working memory representation resolution is manipulated by the degree of variation between memory items and detection items.Study 2 adopted a 2(participants:internet dependent colleges, normal colleges)×2(resolution load: high resolution load, low resolution load)mixed experimental design.Resolution was internal variables of subject. The sources of subjects in Experiment 1 are the same as those in study 1.In this study,we selected internet dependent college students(n=34)and normal college students(n=35)to complete the dual task paradigm experiment of color change detection task and delay discounting on computer. After removing 9 invalid data,two-factor repeated measure ANOVA was performed on k0 of 30 internet dependent and 30 normal college students. The results showed that the main effect of subject type was marginal significant, and the k0 of internet dependent college students was significantly lower than that of normal college students. The interaction between subject type and working memory resolution load was marginal significant.Under the load of high working memory resolution, the number of internet dependent college students was larger than that of normal college students. In experiment 2 of study 2,sadness refers to unpleasant emotional experiences, generated in the case of loss or inability to gain.Study 2 adopted a 2(participants: internet dependent colleges, normal colleges)×2(emotion condition: sadness, neutral emotion)mixed experimental design. The sources of subjects in Experiment 2 were the same as those in study 1.In this experiment,Internet dependent college students(n=36)and normal college students(n=38)were selected to complete the delay discount task after watching the video on the computer. After removing 8 invalid data,two-factor repeated measure ANOVA was performed on k0 of 33 internet dependent and 33 normal college students. The results show that the main effect of subject type was significant, and the k0 of internet dependent college students was significantly higher than that of normal college students. The interaction between emotion type and subject type was significant.Simple effect analysis showed that the k0 of internet-dependent college students was significantly higher than that of normal college students under sad mood compared with neutral mood.Through three experiments, this study draws the following conclusions:(1)The delay discount rate was significantly higher in the high resolution of working memory representations condition than that in the low condition for both internet-dependent and normal college students, but the degree of change in the delay discount rate was higher for internet-dependent college students than for normal college students.(2)The delay discount rate was significantly higher in the sad mood condition than in the neutral mood condition for both internet-dependent and normal college students, but the degree of change in the delay discount rate was significantly higher for internet-dependent college students than for normal college students. This study has the following educational implications:Based on the characteristics of internet-dependent college students, being sensitive to reward and easily affected by high resolution of working memory representations and sadness, teachers should clearly list the differences between similar concepts when teaching similar concepts to reduce students’ working memory load and improve teaching quality. In the construction of mental health courses,it is recommended that content related to internet addiction and Internet dependence be included so that students understand the negative impacts of excessive Internet use.Plus, mental health courses need to pay attention to the construction of courses related to emotion regulation strategies. |
