| Sociality mental modes(i.e.,market mode primed by money cues and communal mode primed by eye gaze)refer to the ways people interact with others in distinct manners(individuals are inclined to share resources with others regardless of the personal costs and benefits in the communal mode but have a personal relationship with others based on cost-benefit ratios in the market mode),and they affect social interaction and even affect the subjective experience. In the process of social interaction, the sociality mental modes will change the individual’s self-perception,and the sense of agency is a subjective experience of controlling behavior initiated in order to influence external events. However, the effect of sociality mental modes on sense of agency is unknown.Social cues often occur in certain contexts.Whether sociality mental modes have different effects on individual sense of agency under different contexts of social inclusion and social exclusion. In this paper, three experiments were conducted to explore the influence of social context and sociality mental modes on sense of agency. In Experiment 1,images of money, human eyes, and tropical fish were used to initiate the sociality mental modes, and the intentional binding paradigm was combined to explore the influence of sociality mental modes on the sense of agency. The results showed that compared with the control group, the market mode estimated the time shorter, and the communal mode estimated the time longer. In Experiment 2,we used the recall writing task to initiate social exclusion and social inclusion and explored the influence of sociality mental modes on the sense of agency in the context of social inclusion and social exclusion. It was found that, compared with baseline conditions, the market mode had a shorter estimate of time in both social exclusion and social inclusion situations: the communal mode rated scores higher than the control group. In Experiment 3,we used the EEG technique to manipulate the social exclusion and social inclusion situations using the classic Internet ball toss task. The intentional binding paradigm was used to further explore the effect of sociality mental modes on the sense of agency in the social exclusion and social inclusion situations. The results show that the market mode induces more negative N1 and P2,while the communal mode induces a greater P2 wave under both social inclusion and exclusion conditions. The public mode caused larger N2 than the control group. The above results indicate that the market mode enhances the sense of agency, while the communal mode decreases the sense of agency. In the context of social inclusion and social exclusion, the market mode can significantly enhance the individual’s implicit sense of agency, while the communal mode can significantly reduce the explicit sense of agency. In the early stage of social inclusion and social exclusion, the market mode enhanced the sense of agency of individuals, indicating that the market mode at the implicit level can induce individuals to focus more on themselves. In the later stage, the communal mode has an impact on the sense of agency, while the market mode has no significant impact on the sense of agency, indicating that individuals pay more attention to others in the later stage, and the sense of agency decreases. This paper can explain the internal psychological mechanism of the influence of social situation and sociality mental modes on sense of agency. |
