Interpersonal communication is an essential social activity of human beings. When people do not get the expected results or experience profound failures in the process of communicating with others, and then they feel afraid of being rejected by others in the subsequent interpersonal communication, they will cause social avoidance behavior.College students’ social avoidance and its influencing factors have aroused widespread concern in society and schools.Studies have proved that there is a close relationship between rejection sensitivity and social avoidance. Therefore, paying attention to the relationship between rejection sensitivity and social avoidance is of great significance to college students’ mental health education. This study will start with college students’ rejection sensitivity, add two variables of interpersonal trust and self-pity,and explore the relationship between rejection sensitivity and social avoidance, aiming at enriching relevant theoretical research and providing reference for the development of college students’ mental health education courses. There are two components to this research: study one,the association between rejection sensitivity, interpersonal trust, and social avoidance among college students is investigated in research one using a questionnaire survey. The results of a survey of 648 college students show that:(1)rejection sensitivity differs significantly by gender;(2)There are significant differences in interpersonal trust among college students in gender, grade and major type;(3)Among college students, there are notable disparities in social avoidance;(4)Rejection sensitivity and social avoidance in college students have a significant positive relationship, and rejection sensitivity can predict social avoidance;(5)There is a significant negative correlation between rejection sensitivity of college students and interpersonal trust level, and rejection sensitivity of college students has a significant negative predictive effect on interpersonal trust;(6)Interpersonal trust of college students is negatively correlated with social avoidance, and interpersonal trust of college students has a significant negative predictive effect on social avoidance;(7)Between rejection sensitivity and social avoidance, college students’ interpersonal trust plays a partial mediating role.Second,in order to explore the moderating effect of self-compassion in the mediation model,a single-factor inter-subject design was adopted,109 subjects were selected, and the priming experiment was used to induce the state self-compassion of subjects, and the moderating effect of self-compassion between rejection sensitivity and interpersonal trust/social avoidance was verified. The results show that initiating self-compassion buffers the negative effects of rejection sensitivity on interpersonal trust and social avoidance. Conclusion: Interpersonal trust plays an intermediary role in rejection sensitivity and social avoidance, and self-pity plays a moderating role in the direct path and the first half of the mediation model.
