As the process of urbanization continues to accelerate, the frequency of population mobility in our country continues to increase, and the dynamic trend of family flow is present.More and more elderly people move to urban areas for their children’s sake. They are faced with the problems of Social adaptation and integration. The fundamental reason brought by the dual system of urban and rural areas is that, the huge cultural differences between urban and rural areas are caused by cultural adaptation.Starting from Narrative Theory and Field Theory, this article uses casework professional methods to intervene in the cultural adaptation of the elderly who move with their children to help them correctly understand the differences in field and habituation, discover their own cultural capital advantages, and change the negative effects of the elderly under the domination of urban mainstream culture. The main purpose is to explore events of special significance, and to develop active and abundant alternative stories to promote cultural adaptation of the elderly.First of all, this research reviews and analyzes the previous researches on cultural adaptation and Narrative Therapy for the elderly who migrated, and constructs a theoretical framework composed of Narrative Theory and Field Theory.Secondly, the semi-structured interview method was used to interview 9 elderly people Migrating with their children to the urban areas, analyzed their cultural adaptation issues from the perspective of Field Theory and Narrative Theory, and conducted a demand assessment of the selected 3 case targeted objects.Thirdly, under the Narrative Therapy model, case work is used to intervene in the client’s cultural adaptation issues, externalizing the influence of negative factors such as differences between urban and rural cultures, habitual differences, and self-cognition on the client ’ s mainstream narrative, helping them to see their own cultural capital strengths, establish cultural self-confidence,correctly treat the differences in culture and habituation between urban and rural areas, reconstruct positive alternative stories, and use their own cultural capital to gain their social status in the urban market area, and encourage targeted objects to transform cultural capital into social capital and symbolic capital enhance their sense of identity with urban culture and their sense of belonging to urban life. Finally, through social work evaluation and self-evaluation,it is found that using casework to intervene in the objects’ methods cultural adaptation problem under the Narrative Therapy mode can help the objects’ correctly deal with the cultural differences between urban and rural areas, discover their own cultural advantages, and promote their cultural adaptation. This research combines Narrative Theory with Field Theory, introduces the concepts of field, habituation, and capital into the application of Narrative Therapy, and helps objects to externalize problems through methods such as externalization, reconstruction, and outsider witness. It analyzes the cultural differences between urban and rural areas in an objective way, comprehends the differences in habituation between urban and rural areas, and analyzes the cultural adaptation issues of the elderly migrating with their children from four aspects:field changes, cultural habituation, cultural capital and the domination of urban mainstream culture. The incompatibility of the targeted objects after moving to urban areas is actually the inadaptability to the urban culture. The key to this problem is that they have rich cultural capital in a specific and objective state and their inherent habits. The "incompatibility" in the urban field affects the adaptation.Through practical research,it is found that Narrative Therapy is consistent with the psychological characteristics of Chinese people who care about their impressions made on others, and because of its simple and practical operation technology,it is suitable for social work services for the elderly. In addition, this study uses Narrative Therapy to intervene in the cultural adaptation of the elderly with Chinese characteristics, which is also an exploration of the localization of Narrative Therapy.
