The theory of cultural memory was put forward by the German cultural scientist Jan Assmann on the basis of inheriting and developing Maurice Halbwachs’ collective memory theory. From the perspective of culture,Jan Assmann further divided the collective memory into communicative memory and cultural memory, focusing on a cohesive structure formed by memory, identity and cultural inheritance. On the basis of Jan Asman’s research,Aleida Assmann further divided cultural memory into stored memory and functional memory. The former is equivalent to the background of memory and the latter is equivalent to the foreground of memory.Borders are constantly infiltrating to maintain the stability and vitality of cultural memory.Compared with other types of archives, university archives are formed in a culturally significant and long-lasting ecological environment, and their contents give clues as to the source of the information and lead the development of culture. It can both provide and strengthen a sense of identity, inherit culture. This has special significance for the study of cohesive structure in cultural memory theory. Therefore, staff of university archives should thoroughly understand and study unique value of university archives, construct university archives resources from the perspective of inheriting cultural memory, and give full play to the role of university archives in the process of inheriting cultural memory,in order to achieve the social responsibility of inheriting human cultural heritage. What is the internal connection between university archives and cultural memory? Do university archives resources meet the requirements for inheriting cultural memory? In order to explore these issues, based on the theory of cultural memory, and taking ten hundred-year-old schools as typical cases, this thesis explains the shortcomings in using university archives resources to broaden the horizon of functional memory and activate the dual mode of cultural memory, and analyzes the reasons. In conclusion, the construction idea, construction form and management system are discussed to promote the construction of university archives resources. The thesis structure is divided into three parts. The first part is the introduction. This part mainly introduces the background and significance of this topic, the current status of research at home and abroad, research ideas, research methods and innovations. The second part is the main part of this thesis. This part mainly includes four aspects:First,it points out that the cultural memory theory is a deepening of collective memory, and further introduces the two complementary modes of cultural memory divided by Aleida Assmann.Based on this, the author understands these two modes as the dual mode of cultural memory, and clarifies the inherent relationship between university archives and the dual mode of cultural memory.Secondly, based on the theory of cultural memory, this thesis analyzes the shortcomings in the realization of the dual model of cultural memory in the process of the construction of university archives resources.Thirdly, the reasons for these shortcomings are discussed in terms of the construction concept, construction form, archiving scope and management norms of university archives resources. In conclusion, this thesis proposes a strategy to promote the construction of university archives resources based on cultural memory theory from three aspects: the construction ideas, construction forms and management systems of university archives resources. The third part is the conclusion. This part mainly summarizes this thesis based on the previous analysis, and points out the thesis deficiency on the issues of preserving cultural memory and updating the content of functional memory by means of archive.
