The history of Chinese culture is broad,profound and long-term,and excellent traditional culture is the most profound and proud cultural soft power of our nation.Every nation will form some ideas in the course of its historical development,which is a valuable spiritual wealth of a nation.Therefore,inheriting the excellent Chinese traditional culture is one of the most important contents to improve the soft power of culture.With the help of the traditional cultural content of the Chinese zodiac,it is possible to cultivate students’ cultural awareness and awaken their cultural self-confidence.With regard to our traditional culture,our primary school students may be able to create traditional cultural communication with the characteristics of the times through their own understanding and with the help of the Internet platform.As for this paper,it aims to create a unique zodiac culture that belongs to campus students through study and practice.In this home practice study,with the COVID-19 as the background and "Chinese Zodiac" as the content,a project-based learning activity combining online and offline was carried out.Chinese Zodiac is a symbol with Chinese traditional cultural elements,which permeates many kinds of Chinese art.In this research,through several steps including actual questions,plan formulation,inquiry learning,work design,communication experience,summary and reflection,students are required to optimize and innovate Chinese Zodiac cultural and creative products on the basis of investigation and understanding,in-depth exploration,understanding and analysis.Specifically,it either injects the zodiac culture into new meanings and enriches its connotation;or integrates it with modern popular elements to design specific products with the characteristics of the times.This study specifically shows the process of the learning activity of "creating Chinese Zodiac creative products",which provides a reference for the further study of traditional culture.During the COVID-19 period,the Ministry of Education put forward a response strategy of "classes are stopped,but learning cannot be shelved" in order to eliminate the adverse effects on education during the special period,which provided a guarantee for students to "learn at home".As for this paper,it tries to start with traditional culture and select Chinese Zodiac as the content of learning,because Chinese Zodiac is China’s enduring traditional national culture.The influence of the Chinese zodiac culture is very large from the past to the present,from the national spirit to the personal zodiac,which means that the Chinese Zodiac as a product is also one of the ways to spread Chinese traditional national culture.Focusing on the cultural connotation of Chinese Zodiac,we conducted a questionnaire survey related to the new crown epidemic and the activity of "Household Learning" in the early stage;In the mid-term,teachers lead students to learn about the zodiac culture in depth,allowing them to experience the zodiac knowledge from artworks and literary works,and complete the optimization and innovation of Chinese Zodiac cultural and creative products by investigating and studying the zodiac products on the market;In the later stage,students report their results through product design,display,and evaluation.What is interesting is that this project-based learning aims to let students understand the rich and profound characteristics of Chinese Zodiac Chinese folk art.Among them,paper-cutting,woodcutting,woodcarving,architecture,sculpture,etc.can all be regarded as media for spreading zodiac culture,but it is worth noting that only true folk art can understand and show national culture and spirit.In the process,the students also carried forward Chinese traditional culture through Chinese Zodiac product design,and added creativity,which will make it more suitable for the needs of modern people.Through project-based learning with the design of Chinese Zodiac cultural and creative products as the driving problem,students have improved their traditional cultural literacy during the learning process,and cultivated their hands-on ability,communication ability and interdisciplinary learning ability.While for teachers,this research and exploration has also improved their scientific research capabilities,and the professionalism of teachers has been developed,so that they can continuously integrate new knowledge while teaching students knowledge.
