As migrant workers flood into cities since the implementation of Reform and Opening up policy,many a child has become floating with their parents moving into the city.Guangzhou,the third largest city with floating children in China,is home to a considerable number of floating children for life and study.Exposed in different urban culture and living environment,children is prone to feel uncomfortable;moreover,statistics from existing research showcases that more than half of floating children undergo discrimination after embracing urban life.However,experiences of discrimination will do harm to the construction and socialization of self-awareness and social cognition of floating children,even stumble their physical and mental development.Therefore,it is of great practical significance to delve into the discrimination perception of floating children in Guangzhou for social stability and the development of basic education in China.Firstly,the introduction part briefs the background and purpose.Dubbed as the pacesetter of the implementation of Reform and Opening up policy,Guangzhou has made remarkable contributions to the development of socialist market economy in China;at the same time,holding a place of first-tier cities,Guangzhou also gets trapped into tricky floating population.Therefore,backed up by qualitative research method and ecosystem perspective,this thesis attempts to conduct non-structural interviews and non-participate observation on floating children of some primary and middle schools in Nancun Town,Panyu District,in order to apprehend the information pertaining to discrimination perception of floating children in Guangzhou.Secondly,this thesis gives in-depth analysis on the discrimination perception of floating children in Guangzhou through ecosystem theory and on formation path and influencing factors concerned from four aspects: themselves,family,school and society.The thesis brings a conclusion that following difficulties are the result of the discrimination perception of floating children in Guangzhou,including their own identity and rational cognitive ability,their parents being at the bottom of jobs,poor living environment,transmission of discrimination consciousness of family education,teachers’ quality and unequal interaction of classmates in schools,tough school selection and shaky integration into community.Last but not least,this thesis proposes service suggestions to remove discrimination perception of children in Guangzhou such aspects as micro system,mesoscopic system,outer system,macro system and diachronic system.In terms of micro-system,social workers should communicate more with teachers to discover and ease negative emotions of children in a timely manner and help parents set up correct education value.In terms of mesoscopic system,cooperation between home and school should be cemented and we should attach importance to the social circle of floating children in Guangzhou and enhance emotional education for them.In terms of outer system,the teaching environment should be better to raise the teaching standard,the sense of belonging of the floating children in the community and the social harmony.In terms of macro system,the government should lay down fair enrollment policy,beef up the guidance of public opinion and relax the policy of registering for permanent residence.Pay attention to the sustainability of services at the time-level,pay attention to the overall impact of time on the system,and formulate a dynamic long-term service plan.
