Income growth is an eternal topic for economists.China’s residents’ income has experienced a long period of rapid growth, but the problems of slow growth and income gap in the process of growth have not been properly solved. How to further promote the high-quality growth of income is an urgent problem facing the academic community. From the perspective of the development of vocational education, this paper explores the influencing factors of income growth, compares the differences of the impact of vocational education on the income growth of urban residents and rural residents, and further examines the role of the development of Vocational Education in alleviating the income gap between urban and rural areas.Based on the panel data of 30 provinces in China from 2007 to 2018,the fixed effect model is used to estimate the regression coefficient of residents’ income caused by the expansion of the scale of vocational education and the improvement of the quality of vocational education, and the residents’ income is divided into urban residents’ income and rural residents’ income, and the different effects of the two on the development of vocational education are compared;the Theil of each province in China from 2007 to 2018 is estimated Using the index as the proxy variable of urban-rural income gap, this paper investigates the impact of the expansion of vocational education scale and quality improvement on urban-rural income gap through the System GMM model, and divides 30 provinces into central,Eastern and western regions according to the level of economic development, and discusses the differences of the impact of the development of vocational education on urban-rural income gap in different economic levels. The results are as follows:Firstly,The development of vocational education, whether it is the expansion of the scale of education or the improvement of the quality of education,is conducive to the growth of China’s residents’ income. However, there are differences in the impact of this role on the income of urban residents and rural residents. The impact of the development of vocational education on the income of rural residents is greater than that of urban residents.Secondly,The expansion of vocational education scale and the improvement of education quality can effectively alleviate the overall urban-rural income gap in China. In terms of different regions, the expansion of the scale of vocational education can effectively narrow the income gap between urban and rural areas in the eastern region;the improvement of the quality of vocational education can significantly reduce the income gap between urban and rural areas in the central region;and the expansion of the scale of education and the improvement of the quality of education can significantly improve the income gap between urban and rural areas in the western region.Based on the above conclusions, this paper draws the following policy implications:Firstly,Although China’s economy and society are developing at a high speed, there are still some problems, such as the slow growth of residents’ income and the large income gap between urban and rural areas. Therefore, the government should continue to pay attention to the problem of residents’ income, take appropriate policies and measures to promote the growth of residents’ income and narrow the income gap between urban and rural areas.Secondly,The development of vocational education has a positive role in promoting the income level of residents and narrowing the income gap between urban and rural areas. The government should broaden the sources of vocational education funds, strengthen the investment in vocational education funds and other policy measures to promote the rapid and high-quality development of vocational education.Thirdly,The impact of the development of vocational education on the income level of residents in different regions and the income gap between urban and rural areas is different. Therefore, when formulating relevant policies, the government should formulate and implement reasonable development strategies according to the characteristics of different regions. |
