Combining the centuries-old intelligent sports with the ancient post road,the ancient post road orienteering competition in southern Guangdong is an international sports event with high cultural value,tourism value and leisure value,which was launched by the Guangdong provincial government and several organizations.Most of the areas along the ancient post road orienteering events in southern Guangdong province are poor villages.The competition is aiming to promote the development of local tourism,culture and other related industries,stimulate the economic development of poor and less developed regions,and narrow the economic gap between regions.Being one of the regions with relatively slow economic development in Guangdong province,Heyuan is one of the most backward cities with many provincial poor villages.However,as one of the cradle-places of Hakka culture,Heyuan has a long history with a lot of intangible cultural heritage.Therefore,this paper takes Heyuan station of ancient post road orienteering competition in southern Guangdong province as an example to discuss the influence of sports events on the development of tourism in the host region.This paper applies hybrid research method,combining quantitative and qualitative methods.The research takes participants,tourists and local residents as subjects,trying to make a comprehensive assessment covering the comprehensive satisfaction with the event,the comprehensive satisfaction of host city and satisfaction of local residents.Both positive and negative feedbacks are included.In this paper,the data collected from the field survey are analyzed and studied by utilizing SPSS25.0,AMOS25.0,Excel and other statistical software.Research findings:1.In the short term,the ancient post road orienteering competition in southern Guangdong has direct economic impacts on tourism of Heyuan,and it could greatly promote local tourism.2.The ancient post road orienteering competition in southern Guangdong can bring much benefits to local residents.These residents have a strong economic perception of the event and their support for the event keeps increasing.3.After making comparison and analysis,the event could exert some influences on regional tourism in the short term,but in the long run,the effect is not obvious.4.Participants of the ancient post road orienteering competition in southern Guangdong are mainly young people,most of whom come from some associations.Groups that received school and official publicity are more likely to travel there after the match.This further explains that the publicity route actively promotes the intention of participants in the ancient post road orienteering contest in southern Guangdong to some extent to participate in tourism activities after the competition.In addition,the event publicity path to a certain extent pushes the possibility of participants to get involved in tourism activities after the competition. |
