Poverty is a prominent social problem in China.In modern society,impoverished families generally have low economic income and lack of basic life security.In such a growing environment,children’s physical and mental development will be affected.Children in poverty environment may make more behaviors leading to poverty,forming "intergenerational transmission of poverty".Under the cultural background of "reading changes fate",the academic performance of impoverished children is the most important concern in the family.As students,learning is their primary task,academic performance is the main index to evaluate students,which is of great significance to children’s development.In this paper,513 impoverished children were selected from nine schools in Changsha,Hengyang,Shaoyang,Zhangjiajie,Chenzhou and Loudi of Hunan Province by questionnaire.Among them,192 were boys(37.5%),321 were girls(62.5%),and the average age was13.25 ± 2.19.This paper investigates the relationship between social support and academic achievement in the special group of impoverished children by using the social support rating scale for adolescents,willpower scale,temperament optimism scale and the final academic achievement data provided by school teachers.Based on the perspective of positive psychology,it tests the mediating role of temperament optimism and the regulating role of willpower 。The results show that:(1)among the impoverished children,social support has a significant positive predictive effect on academic performance.(2)Among the impoverished children,temperament optimism plays an intermediary role between social support and academic achievement.(3)Social support affects impoverished children’s academic performance through temperament optimism,and perseverance regulates the first half,the second half and the direct path.The results show that perseverance plays a moderating role between social support and temperament optimism.No matter whether the level of perseverance is high or low,the social support of impoverished children has a significant positive prediction on temperament optimism.Perseverance plays a moderating role between social support and academic achievement.Under the low level of perseverance,the social support of impoverished children has no significant effect on their academic performance.Under the high level of perseverance,the social support of impoverished children can positively affect their academic performance.Perseverance plays a moderating role between temperament optimism and academic performance.Regardless of the level of perseverance,that is to say,temperament optimism of impoverished children has a positive predictive effect on academic performance.Conclusion: to improve the academic performance of impoverished children,we should focus on the social support and positive psychological quality of impoverished children,help them to improve their positive psychological quality,increase their social support for impoverished children,and teach them how to use the resources around them,improve their resistance to risk factors,and promote the learning of impoverished children Performance.
