Grit plays an important role in students’ learning process, especially in situations of challenges and setbacks.Through the summary of the existing data,we can find that the quality of grit can predict the success of a well-defined task, such as academic achievement. However, there is still a lack of more evidence to support the mechanism of the effect of grit on academic achievement. In order to deeply explore the influence mechanism of the two, this study selected 500 middle school students from several middle schools in Shaanxi Province as subjects to explore the relationship between grit and academic achievement and the intermediary role of achievement motivation between them.that is,the construction of a double intermediary model of the relationship between grit, achievement motivation and academic achievement. The results show that:(1)The reliability and validity of grit scale and achievement motivation scale are good.(2)Through the analysis of the differences among the five demographic variables,it is found that there are significant differences in grit in different only child nature, grade and father’s education level, there are significant differences in the motivation of pursuing success in grade, and there are significant differences in the motivation of avoiding failure in grade and father’s education level.Academic achievement is only significant at different father’s education levels.(3)The quality of grit and its two dimensions were positively correlated with motivation to pursue success(r=0.44~0.58,p<0.01)and academic achievement(r=0.30~0.38,p<0.01).Academic achievement was also significantly correlated with motivation to pursue success(r=0.41,p<0.01)and motivation to avoid failure(r=-0.33,p<0.01).(4)Grit has a positive predictive effect on academic achievement,in which motivation to pursue success plays a positive intermediary role in the process of academic achievement performance of people with grit;motivation to avoid failure plays a negative intermediary role in the process of academic achievement performance of people with grit.
