| This study uses a mixed research approach. In Study 1,we developed a children ’s learning motivation scale and tested its reliability and validity;in Study 2,we used a questionnaire survey to 768 parents of a primary school in Fuzhou and these 170 children of parents conducted a survey to explore the relationship between parental rearing behavior and children’s learning motivation;Study 3 used in-depth interviews to interview 17 parents of 16 children who ranked in the overall ranking.Studies have shown that "Children’s Learning Motivation Scale" has good psychological measurement. In the study of the relationship between parental rearing and children’s learning motivation,we focused on the impact of parental cognitive factors, parental rearing behaviors, and parental participation on children’s learning motivation. The quantitative study found that there was no significant correlation between positive encouragement and helpless-oriented pattern.Parenting behavior can predict children’s master-oriented pattern negatively and predict children’s helpless-oriented pattern positively. However, parental consistency did not predict the child’s master-oriented pattern significantly, nor did positive encouragement predict the child’s helpless-oriented pattern significantly. The qualitative study found that the 17 children with poor academic performance have the problem of learning motivation generally. The typical performance is lack of autonomy in learning, and the parents’ low participation and low quality in their children’s academic participation lead to the problem of children’s over-dependence on their parents, such as: It is used to remind parents to request help immediately when they encounter difficulties, which is not conducive to the development of children’s motivation to learn independently. In terms of parental expectations, compared with the impact of one-way parental expectations on children ’s learning motivation, whether parents can adjust their expectations according to the child’s learning situation which made their expectations more realistic can more predict the impact of parental expectations on children’s learning motivation. When there is a problem with the child’s learning, parents will adopt some coping strategies.Interview studies have found that parents’ coping strategies are generally rigid and single, failing to solve children’s learning motivation problems, and some strategies, such as beating children which caused new problems.Among the coping measures, parents most often use communication.Studies have found that parents of children with poor academic performance mostly adopt negative communication way.The way affects children ’s self-efficacy,which in turn affects their internal motivation. |
