At present,China has embarked on a new journey of building a strong and powerful nation in higher education.Undergraduate education is the foundation of higher education, and high-level undergraduate education is the inherent requirement of a strong and powerful nation in higher education.Accelerating the construction of first-class undergraduate education has become an inevitable choice for Chinese universities. With the quality standard of higher education turning to the study and development of student, the importance of student experience in the construction of undergraduate education has become increasingly prominent.Colleges and universities around the world have embedded student experience into the strategic planning of undergraduate education, innovated talent training mode and built quality assurance system around student experience,so as to optimize the decision-making and management of undergraduate education. In the face of the practical needs of the comprehensive reform and innovative development of national higher education, how to effectively integrate student experience with undergraduate education, and promote universities to build first-class undergraduate education based on student experience is a realistic problem that needs to be solved urgently in China. As the flagship of public universities in the United States, the University of California,Berkeley has since the 21 st century transformed the external challenges of undergraduate education reform in the United States into opportunities for on-campus development, systematically reformed undergraduate education based on student experience, and realized its commitment to excellence in first-class undergraduate education. This research according to the General System Theory,“PDCA” Cycle Theory and Colleges Impact Theory, divides the first-class undergraduate education of UC Berkeley into strategic planning stage, key construction stage, accountability evaluation stage and improvement and promotion stage, comprehensively uses literature research method, historical research method, case study method and comparative research method to systematically explore the construction of first-class undergraduate education based on student experience in UC Berkeley.First of all, this research reviews the historical process of undergraduate education reform of UC Berkeley, and summarizes the motivations for its undergraduate education construction to focus on student experience from three aspects:external driving factors, theoretical foundation factors and internal development factors.Secondly, sorts out the strategic planning of the UC Berkeley, which takes student experience as the core, and explores the value orientation and strategic focus of the construction of first-class undergraduate education.Thirdly, from the aspects of admissions selection, degree programs, professional settings, curriculum system and teaching mode of undergraduate education, summarize the characteristic undergraduate education initiatives of the UC Berkeley focusing on student experience, and explores the student support mechanism, teacher development mechanism, accountability evaluation mechanism and investigation and research mechanism created to optimize the student experience. Finally,on the basis of the above studies, summarize the experience of UC Berkeley in building a first-class undergraduate education based on student experience. From the following seven aspects to provide inspiration and reference for China’s universities to build first-class undergraduate education: the transformation of student-centered education concept, the formulation of undergraduate education strategic planning, the promotion of interdisciplinary education development, the improvement of service and management mechanism, the normalization of education quality evaluation, the strengthening of educational decision-making under the guidance of university research, the creation of diverse and inclusive campus culture.
