| John Milton(John Milton,1608-1674)was a political commentator during the British bourgeois revolution and an advocate of British educational reform in the 17 th century.As an educational reformer in the transition period of British society,the humanistic education thought he advocated had a great influence on British education and promoted the modernization of British education.However,John Milton’s educational thought lacks sufficient attention in academic circles,and lacks systematic his humanistic education thought.Therefore,this study will take John Milton’s humanistic education thought as the research object,combine the background and theoretical basis of John Milton’s humanistic education thought,and analyze the main contents of John Milton’s humanistic education thought.In order to enrich people’s understanding of John Milton’s humanistic education thought.John Milton’s humanistic education thought is closely related to his background and life experience.John Milton’s family atmosphere and education since childhood are free and full of humanism.He grew up in the later stage of social transformation in feudal society,but also full of struggle and confrontation.It is under this background that his humanistic educational thought was born.Ancient Greek "theory of human nature" thought,early Renaissance humanism thought,as well as John Milton’s own liberalism theory,people’s sovereignty theory laid a solid foundation for John Milton’s humanistic education thought.The basic connotation of John Milton’s humanistic educational thought includes four aspects: attack on traditional education,educational teleology,knowledge view and learning view.John Milton demonstrates the decay and backwardness of traditional education from different angles,and proves that traditional education is no longer suitable for the development of man and society.The purpose of education begins to turn to individual and real life as human beings.The exposition of the importance of learning to people and society and the attitude towards knowledge all reflect the strong humanism spirit.John Milton intends to apply his humanistic education thought to practice,and then constructs the blueprint of the new humanistic school.John Milton’s humanistic education thought has two major characteristics,first of all,his education thought is very aristocratic atmosphere,John Milton advocated a kind of gentleman education,which is hierarchical;Secondly,the blending of classicism and realism is the most important characteristic of his humanistic education thought,and the innovative classicism and vivid realism are embodied in his humanistic education thought.John Milton’s humanistic education thought has profound time value and historical significance,but while affirming its progressiveness,it should also correctly understand his limitations and grasp his humanism education thought in all directions. |
