Research On The Formation Mechanism Of Rural Parents’ Educational Expectation

The fairness of educational opportunity is the focus of the society,because the role of education not only includes the improvement of individual ability,but also plays an important role in adjusting the social structure.Parents’ educational expectation refers to the educational goal that parents hope the educatees to achieve based on their personal experience and judgment ability.The target includes the level of education a person ends up with and the type of school they go to.Studies at home and abroad show that educational expectation can play a strong role in predicting the educational level,economic status and personal achievement of the educatees.At the same time,educational expectation also reflects people’s trust in the function of education system to regulate social structure.For rural families,"reading is the way out" is to support people’s belief in education for a long time,and is also an important source of motivation for rural parents’ educational expectations.Through in-depth interviews with parents,this study explores the construction and formation mechanism of rural parents’ educational expectations,divides this process into two stages: high expectations and low expectations,and understands the realistic background of rural parents’ educational expectations from the perspective of expectation theory and rational choice theory.Here’s what the study found.First,cultural constraints formed by demands promote the high educational expectations of rural parents at the early stage of their children’s schooling.At present,rural parents all want their children to obtain higher education and attach great importance to academic qualifications.Therefore,rural parents have high expectations for their children’s education at the early stage of schooling.National development,labor market selection standard and demand rural parents three parties jointly created a culture of the pursuit of higher education and good university environment,rural parents for the height of the cultural identity and internalized in the mind,making their children to school in the early education rural parents expectations at a high level stage,parents want their children to achieve education,was admitted to a good university.Second,the disadvantage of educational resources makes the educational expectation level of rural parents decrease gradually with the increase of children’s grade,and finally it is above a low level.The economic situation of rural families and the low education level of rural parents lead to the poor achievement of rural children and ultimately lower the educational expectation of rural parents.
