The adaptation of first grade students directly affects the students’ campus life.Children with visual impairment have certain barriers to adaptation due to their limited level of vision.Upon entering the first grade, the environmental and educational differences from before make it more challenging for students, and the adaptation problems faced by first grade visually impaired students are even more prevalent. Therefore, the adjustment of first-grade visually impaired students to school is an important aspect of blind school education. In this study,we used questionnaires, interviews, and participant observation to find out the current level of adaptation of first grade visually impaired students in terms of learning adaptation, daily behavior adaptation, interpersonal adaptation, and emotional adaptation after enrollment in a blind school, based on their physical, psychological, and age characteristics and cognitive levels. The results revealed that first grade visually impaired students’ attention profile and the development of good routines were key to academic adaptation;they faced challenges in adapting to daily life;they had good interpersonal adaptation;and individual students had emotional maladjustment, etc.By analyzing the factors that affect the first grade visually impaired students’ adjustment to school, and making suggestions to promote the first grade visually impaired students’ adjustment to school. The adjustment of visually impaired students to school should focus on the creation of an inclusive environment and the improvement of school auxiliary facilities;the establishment of correct educational concepts and the cultivation of students’ good will quality;the improvement of students’ adaptive ability and the importance of students’emotions and emotions in order to ensure that the first grade visually impaired students can smoothly integrate into the group, adapt to school life and be fully prepared for future learning and interaction.
