The Relationship Between Adolescent Students’ Parenting Style And Social Adaptation | Posted on:2022-01-11 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | Country:China | Candidate:Q Zhang | Full Text:PDF | GTID:2507306347950409 | Subject:Mental health education | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | Parenting style refer to the aggregate of attitudes,behavior patterns,and emotional tendencies commonly adopted by parents in the process of raising and educating their children in family life,which can have a solid and long-term impact on children’s physical and mental development and personality development,and then Can affect the level of social adaptation of children.However,the mechanism of how the parenting style affects the level of social adaptation of the child is not yet clear.Research shows that emotional intelligence and self-identity are both important propositions for life growth,which are closely related to the family’s growth environment and social adaptation.This research takes adolescents as the research object,discusses the influence mechanism of parenting styles on social adaptation around these variables,and conducts targeted group counseling for intervention research.Research 1 selected 1705 students from a school to measure their parenting styles,emotional intelligence,self-identity,and social adaptation levels by issuing questionnaires.SPSS24.0 and Process V3.3 were used for data analysis.The second study explored the effectiveness of group counseling by recruiting student subjects and dividing them into experimental group and control group with 19 subjects each.The experimental group received 6 targeted group counseling while the control group did not deal with it.Through analyzing and researching a data result,the research found that:(1)Parenting style significantly positively predicts the level of adolescents’ social adaptation;(2)Parenting style significantly positively predicts emotional intelligence;(3)Parenting style significantly positively predicts the self-cognition level of adolescents;(4)Adolescents’emotional intelligence significantly positively predicts their current self-investment and their willingness to invest in the future;(5)Emotional intelligence plays an intermediary role between parenting styles and adolescents’ social adjustments;(6)Self-investment now and willingness to invest in the future play an intermediary role between the parenting style and the social adjustment of the youth;(7)The two dimensions of emotional intelligence and self-awareness(present self-investment,future investment willingness)play a sequential mediating role between parenting styles and social adaptation.The group counseling intervention carried out by Study 2 found that adolescents’emotional intelligence and social adaptation were significantly improved.Therefore,the effect of the group counseling intervention was effective.This study reveals the mechanism by which parenting styles influence social adaptation through the mediating effects of emotional intelligence and self-identity and their sequence mediating effects,and does not provide directions and suggestions for targeted group counseling. | Keywords/Search Tags: | parenting style, emotional intelligence, self-identity, social adaptation, group counseling | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
