The Influence Of Parents’ Going Out To Work On Their Children’s Human Capital

Urbanization scale expands,spawned a massive rural labor force to cities,from the slow development in industrial and commercial city to rapid city industrial and commercial development,however,the long-standing policy of household registration system in China leads to the fact that children cannot move with their parents at the same time,which causes children to be separated from their parents,thus accumulating a large number of left-behind children in rural areas.The accumulation of children’s human capital affects the lifetime income and achievement of individuals,and more importantly,the long-term accumulation of national human capital.Migrant workers in recent years,the parents for their children’s academic performance,physical health,mental health research emerge in endlessly,this paper summarized previous research to two Angle analysis:on the one hand,families with parents migrant workers,the increase in the amount of the remittance can not only improve the whole family living standards,and to improve their children’s education expenses;On the other hand,parents work for a long time and are separated from their children all the year round,so they fail to give full play to their parents’ supervision and accompanying role and cannot always pay attention to their children’s mental health.Previous studies have shown that left-behind children in their teenage years are sensitive to their parents’ going out for work,and their parents’ long time of going out for work will have a certain impact on their children’s academic performance and mental health.Using the data of China Family Tracking Survey(CFPS)in 2014,this paper selected rural children aged 10-15 with living parents as the research objects,and discussed the impact of parents’ going out on children’s human capital from the perspectives of cognitive test scores and sound personality shaping ability.In this paper,first of all for children’s cognitive test scores,the degree of depression,and improve the personality mold ability,expenditure on education,parents and children talk times such as basic situation analysis,on this basis,in view of the descriptive statistics analysis,using OLS regression respectively on children’s cognitive test scores and improve the ability to do the empirical research on personality forming,and then within each part,the introduction of education expenditure and the mediation mechanism,the number of parents and children talk finally in order to make the article more have administrative levels feeling and the reliability,gender,education stages,respectively,the result of the empirical analysis of the heterogeneity,at the same time,by changing the robustness of the performance indicators of human capital.In this paper,by using multiple linear regression model(OLS)to the CFPS(2014)analysis found that:(1)parents migrant children have significant positive influence on cognitive test scores,and for their children’s healthy personality shaping ability has the opposite effect,at the same time,the mother going out than father negative influence in the children’s healthy personality shaping ability is more significant,left-behind children with long than short time children are more prone to psychological problems;(2)In this study,the influence of education expenditure variable and the frequency of heart-talk with parents on children’s human capital was analyzed.It was found that education expenditure could explain 31.7%of the influence of parents’ going out on children’s cognitive test scores,and the frequency of heart-talk could explain 4.19%of the influence of parents’ going out on children’s personality shaping ability.(3)Through the analysis of heterogeneity by gender and education stage,this paper finds that the influence of parents’ migrant work on the cognitive test scores and personality shaping ability of girls and primary school children in rural areas is more obvious.To sum up,this article from the perspective of family,school and government three policy Suggestions:(1)parents should participate in "parenting" activities,change the concept of education of their children,to increase their children’s education spending and with time,doing family decisions,go out let father and mother to take care of the children in the home,both to ensure that certain economic income,and that his mother can play the role of supervision,which fits nicely with becker’ s gender division of labor theory;(2)Schools should meet the basic material resources that students need for learning,such as improving students’ learning environment,recruiting excellent teachers to teach,etc.,and try to establish an educational guardianship system for left-behind children;(3)The state should gradually liberalize the household registration system,increase the construction of basic education in cities,and let children move with their parents;For children with difficulty in migration,relevant government agencies need to take measures to strengthen children’s mental health counseling,such as carrying out free psychological counseling and organizing parent-child group building activities.
