Affected by the complex environment of society, school, and family, the level of psychological health of contemporary college students varies, and as the hope for the development of the motherland and the main force for the realization of the Chinese Dream, colleges and universities should attach great importance to their mental health.Physical self-esteem and general self-efficacy are two important indicators for evaluating an individual’s mental health. The level of the two directly affects the mental health of college students.Aerobics is an ornamental, fashionable and diverse sport. It is loved by college students and has become an indispensable sport in the physical education courses of universities. This study uses aerobics as a starting point, and conducts teaching experiments based on related theoretical research to explore the effect of aerobics on college students ’physical self-esteem and general self-efficacy,in an attempt to improve college students’ physical self-esteem and general selfefficacy and to provides some practical reference significance for the development of aerobics projects in colleges. This study used the literature data method, psychometric method, experimental method and mathematical statistics method.Taking 80 college students from Northwest University as experimental objects, experimental group and control group each with 40 people, the experimental group was given a 16-week aerobics teaching intervention.During the experiment period, the control group reduced the amount of exercise as much as possible except for normal participation in public physical education and did not participate in aerobics exercise and other related sports. Before and after the experiment, the body self-esteem scale(PSPP)and the general selfefficacy scale(GSES)were used to measure the subject’s physical self-esteem and general self-efficacy level,to explore whether aerobics exercises have an effect on college students’ physical self-esteem and general self-esteem.The findings are as follows:1.Aerobics exercises have a positive effect on promoting college students’ physical self-esteem.In terms of physical self-worth and body attractiveness, aerobics promotes girls better than boys;and in terms of athletic ability, physical condition and physical fitness, aerobics promotes boys better than girls.2.The aerobics exercise has a positive effect on promoting the general selfefficacy of college students, and it has a better impact on boys than girls.3.The effect of aerobics on college students’ general self-efficacy is more significant than that on physical self-esteem.Based on the findings, the following recommendations are made:1.Colleges and universities should pay more attention to the positive role of aerobics in psychological correction and education of college students, and can use itas a positive measure to enhance college students’ physical self-esteem and general self-efficacy.Various forms such as elective courses, clubs, and professional training teams can be used to promote the popularization and development of aerobics on campus in order to promote the improvement of physical and mental health of college students.2.In the development of aerobics teaching, teachers should adopt appropriate teaching methods according to the age, sex, physical fitness, psychological conditions and other factors of the teaching target, and take students’ learning interests as the guidance to implement targeted teaching arrangements and courses design.3.With the increasing attention to exercise psychology, college teachers can develop appropriate exercise plans for college students’ bad psychological symptoms to promote the healthy development of their physical self-esteem and general selfefficacy level.4.Colleges and universities should take appropriate incentive measures to guide students to actively participate in sports activities, cultivate students’ good exercise habits, and enable them to achieve the goal of comprehensive development in sports.
