Population is an essential component of society. The spatial distribution pattern of urban population can not only reflect the urban spatial composition structure, but also an important basis for judging whether a city is developing in a benign and orderly manner.Studying the characteristics of the spatial and temporal evolution of urban population distribution and the mechanism of spatial differentiation can not only help people grasp the structural changes in urban development and change, but also guide the rational layout of population and economic industries,so as to deepen the planning development of the country and city And transformation provide effective decision support and policy advice. In the 70 years since the founding of New China,China’s total population has grown from 540 million in 1949 to 1.4 billion at the end of 2019,with an average annual growth rate of about 1.4%.While the total population continues to grow, urban population problems such as contradictions in human-land relations, excessive population distribution, and uneven population distribution and economic development have become increasingly prominent. Some cities have experienced uneven population distribution during the development process, resulting in energy shortages."City diseases" such as traffic congestion and environmental pollution have adversely affected urban development and the healthy operation of society.Analysing the characteristics of urban population spatial differentiation and its mechanism is of great significance for optimizing population distribution, rationally guiding the orderly transfer of population, and coordinating the relationship between population, resources, environment, and society. At present, most of the research objects for the spatial differentiation of urban population are first-tier cities such as Beijing,Shanghai,Guangzhou, and Shenzhen. Most of the research on new first-tier cities is also concentrated in cities in the central and eastern regions such as Wuhan and Hangzhou. There are few studies, and most of the studies use provincial, district or county level data, and there is a lack of finescale data research at the township level. In terms of research methods, traditional time series models or ordinary panel models are mainly used, and the spatial differences in population spatial distribution are ignored. The qualitative and interactive factors. In summary, this paper selects Chengdu,a new first-tier city in the west of China,as the research object, based on the data of the fifth and sixth population censuses, taking streets and townships as the research unit, using standard deviation ellipse method, variation function, population center of gravity and Spatial autocorrelation and other analysis methods, from multiple perspectives to explore the dynamic evolution characteristics of Chengdu’s population spatial distribution from 2000 to 2010,and the use of geographic detectors and geographic weighted regression models on the intensity, interaction and interaction of factors affecting the spatial differentiation of Chengdu’s population Its heterogeneity is systematically studied. The study found:1.During the period from 2000 to 2010,Chengdu’s population distribution has significant spatial differences, with an obvious trend of "aggregation towards the center".The population density spatially shows that the urban center is the "core" and gradually decreases toward the surrounding urban areas. The distribution pattern of the population;the population of the first ring of urban areas as the high point, from the inside to the outside of the gradual decrease. The study also found that the population of 19 districts(counties and cities)in Chengdu is not randomly distributed, but has a significant spatial agglomeration and a higher degree of agglomeration in the direction of "Northwest-Southeast".2.Research on the development and evolution of the spatial distribution pattern of Chengdu’s population shows that the Clark model is the best population density model for describing the population distribution of Chengdu.Although Chengdu has initially formed a multi-core structure, the multi-center structure has not yet matured and the population distribution The distribution pattern of "core-margin" and "circle distribution" is presented;during 2000 and 2010,a spatial pattern of rapid population growth in the second circle and slow population growth in the first and third circles was formed.3.The research of geographic detectors on the spatial differentiation mechanism of Chengdu ’s population shows that the drivers of both social economy and geographic nature have a driving effect on the spatial distribution of Chengdu ’s population, but the driving effect of natural geographic factors on the population distribution is weaker than Social and economic development factors;at the same time, there are interactions between the factors. The influence of the interaction of the two factors on the urban population density is greater than the effect of each factor when it acts alone.4.The regression result of the geographically weighted regression model of Chengdu population density shows that the population distribution near medical facilities is a positive aggregation effect, and the effect of the education index, company index, forest land index, transportation index, and water body index on population spatial agglomeration,It has significant spatial heterogeneity, with both positive and negative effects. The specific performance is that the enterprise index is dominated by negative effects, especially the companies and enterprises in the first and second tiers of Chengdu City have fewer supporting houses and higher living costs,so the resident population is less;the education index is positive.Mainly, except for Chongzhou City,Dayi County and Qionglai City, most of the districts and counties have a positive effect;as they are located in the Chengdu Plain, the climate is mild, the rain is abundant, the ecological environment is excellent, and the water resources are rich. The impact of Chengdu’s population agglomeration mainly appears as a negative effect.
