| With the continuous development of China’s population aging,the number of demented elderly in our country also continues to increase.However,people’s understanding of dementia has not increased,and the public has misunderstandings and prejudices against dementia,which has led to discrimination and exclusion among elderly dementia patients.These conditions can cause stigma in some elderly dementia patients,which can affect their quality of life in later life.Based on this,this article took the stigma of dementia as the research theme,and took the W case of the Welfare Institute as the research object,and provided case services for the service object under the guidance of the empowerment perspective to explore the intervention effect of practical methods on the shame of mild dementia in the perspective of empowerment.This article used SIS to conduct a pre-test of the client,and transformed the client ’s sense of stigma into three dimensions with high scores: Social Rejection,Internalized Shame,and Social Isolation.According to the item information of these three dimensions and the special situation of the case,the author analyzed the needs of the case in terms of "personal change" and "environmental change".Therefore,this article empowered the client from the personal level and interpersonal relationship.The personal level empowerment included knowledge,consciousness,and ability.Empowerment at the interpersonal level is mainly for peer relationshipsAccording to the final multi-faceted assessment,it would be seen that the client’s sense of stigma has been reduced.It showed that the case practice method guided by the perspective of empowerment can reduce the stigma of the case owner,and the applicability of the practice method under the perspective of empowerment to intervene the stigma of the elderly with mild dementia.Although this study has obtained a relatively good result,there are still many issues worth discussing and reflecting,such as the discussion of the research theme,theoretical basis and practical method selection,and reflections on social workers’ abilities,roles,and environmental changes. |
