Abstract/Summary:
The Ultimate Fighting Championship(UFC),based in Las Vegas,is the world’s largest mixed martial arts promotion.Since its establishment in 1993,UFC has been constantly improving its rules and the competitive level of its competitors,gradually establishing itself as the highest stage of mma.Thanks to the success of the UFC,mma has grown from an obscure and brutal sport to the world’s most popular fighting sport and is widely regarded as one of the fastest-growing sports in the past 2 decades.This research is based on a review of 20 representative business model related literature,and screens out the six most frequent elements in the mainstream business model element theory.Based on these six elements,the business model analysis framework,including products Model,operation model,cooperation model and profit model,using this framework to analyze the UFC business model.The research methods of literature,field visit,expert interview and comparative analysis are used to analyze t he development process,development environment and specific composition of UFC’s business model.At the same time,the main advantages of the UFC business model and the potential threats are sorted out.The conclusions are as follows:1.The product model of UFC includes customer segmentation and products and services.UFC’s current customer segmentation group is mainly 18-49-year-old adult males;UFC’s products are mainly divided into three categories: core products,that is,top-level comprehensive Fighting events,peripheral products and fighting fitness training services.2.The operation mode of UFC mainly includes core resources,key business and strategy.UFC’s core resources are its own brands and contracted elite athletes;UFC’s key business is to hold high-level integrated fighting events;UFC’s main development strategies include merger and acquisition strategy,differentiation strategy,and social media leadership strategies.3.The cooperation model of UFC mainly includes cooperation with Broadcaster,cooperation with other fighting organizations,and cooperation with sponsors.4.UFC’s profit model can be divided into revenue sources and cost structure.UFC’s revenue sources mainly include media copyrights,PPV sales,event tickets,and sponsorship income;UFC’s main costs include athletes’ salaries and bonuses,content production costs,and employee salaries.5.Compared to its major competitors,the main advantages of UFC’s business model can be divided into core resources advantage,the advantage of the key business and financial advantages,including the large amount of athletes,high frequency in hosting events,high degree of internationalization,monopoly on elite athletes,absolute control over athletes and strong position in the distribution of income,etc.6.UFC’s current business model is solid,but it also faces potential threats,including the threat of continuing antitrust litigation and the threat of the the pass of The Muhammad Ali Expansion Act.
