Research On Bilateral Political Distance,National Systems And China’s Imports

As the process of economic globalization further deepens,the degree of political and economic dependence is increasing.In today’s world,there are constant frictions between countries.Events such as Brexit,US President Trump deliberately provoking the Sino-US trade war,and US-EU trade war after taking office show that the uncertainty of the international political environment still exists.As one of the world’s major powers,China has continuously strengthened its national strength in recent years,and its political,economic and trade ties with other countries in the world have become increasingly close.A correct understanding of the impact of political relations and institutional differences between countries on my country’s import trade will help promote the development of my country’s import trade.In this context,this article selects the panel data of 136 United Nations member states that established diplomatic relations with China from 2002 to 2018 as a sample,and uses the absolute value of the difference between the "ideal points" voted by each country in the United Nations General Assembly as the bilateral political distance.Proxy variable,divide the system into formal and informal institutional distances,conduct empirical research on the relationship between bilateral political distance,national institutions and China’s import trade,and draw the following conclusions:（1）The reduction of bilateral political distance can be significant Promoting my country’s import trade,that is,the improvement of bilateral political relations will help promote my country’s import trade.（2）Bilateral political distance has different effects on different types of imported products,types of enterprises,and importing countries.It has a greater impact on public-owned enterprises,general trading enterprises,products without comparative advantages,and non-Belt and Road countries.（3）Narrowing the formal institutional distance and the informal institutional distance between my country and importing countries is conducive to promoting my country’s imports.（4）The control system distance and the informal system distance in the formal institutional distance both have a significant moderating effect on the import trade effect of bilateral political distance.The smaller the institutional distance between the two countries that carry out bilateral trade,the better the bilateral political relations will affect the import trade volume.The greater the positive impact.Finally,based on the research conclusions,the following suggestions are made to promote the rational formulation of corporate decision-making and government trade policies,and promote the further development of China’s import trade:（1）Strengthen political interaction and deepen multi-level partnerships;（2）Pay close attention to the international environment,Adjust corporate strategy in real time;（3）Improve the framework of the trade system and improve the environment of the trade system;（4）Strengthen cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries and reduce cultural barriers between countries.The contributions and innovations of this article are mainly reflected in:（1）Combining bilateral political distance and institutional distance,studying the influencing factors of my country’s import trade from the perspective of the political and institutional relationship between countries is based on the existing relevant literature from an economic perspective.A useful supplement to research.（2）Compared with the previous literature,this article discusses the impact of bilateral political distance on my country’s trade in a more in-depth and comprehensive manner.On the basis of exploring the mechanism of bilateral political distance on my country’s import trade,it further explores the impact on different countries,products,and enterprises.Heterogeneity influence,and expand the study of the system’s regulating effect on the import trade effect of bilateral political distance.（3）Based on the research conclusions,targeted policy recommendations are put forward from the government,enterprises,etc.,with a view to providing certain theoretical and empirical reference for the government to optimize trade policies and promote rational decision-making by enterprises.
