Study On Regional Interaction Of Hezbollah Since The 2010 Middle East Upheaval | | Posted on:2021-06-07 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:L Shen | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2506306095469094 | Subject:World History | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | In the current Middle East,Hezbollah is a powerful Shi’a Islamist group.Before the upheaval in the Middle East in 2010,the scope and focus of Hezbollah’s activities had long been limited to Lebanon’s domestic focus,and its development was characterized by its internal Lebaneseization and its external dependence on Iran and Syria.Participation in and influence of the Israeli-Palestinian dispute is the focus of Hezbollah regional contacts and a major source of its own legitimacy.But the outbreak of the upheaval in the Middle East has had a broad and far-reaching impact on Hezbollah’s regional contacts: First,Hezbollah’s relations with regional allies have changed significantly.The group’s direct involvement in Syria’s civil war changed its old relationship with the Bashar regime,whose military dependence on Hezbollah is the main manifestation.Hezbollah has closer ties to Iran.Against the backdrop of Iran’s export of the “Hezbollah model”,Hezbollah’s activities have continued to proliferate in the Middle East,with deep cooperation with other pro-Iranian forces.Second,the conflict between Hezbollah and the forces of regional hostility has been intensified.Although anti-Israel priorities have been put on hold,the organization’s regional activities threaten the interests of the United States,Israel and sand on a broader scale,and the regional environment it faces is more complex,sensitive and harsh.Finally,the relationship between Hezbollah and the various forces within Lebanon has been divided and restructured.The twin policy of bringing Lebanon’s Shiites closer together around Hezbollah and of attacking and rallying against anti-Hezbollah forces in Lebanon is an important reason why the organization can become a dominant force in Lebanese politics under the new circumstances.It has proved that after more than 30 years of evolution,Hezbollah has become a dominant force in Lebanese domestic politics and a regional participant in transnational action.The influence of external forces and changes in the regional situation play a crucial role in the organization’s logic of action and direction of evolution.The organization is now playing an important role beyond its size and is deeply involved in regional affairs.Its regional communication presents three characteristics: pragmatism of foreign policy,legitimacy shaping of foreign action and centralization of position within the “axis of resistance”.Since the upheaval in the Middle East,Hezbollah’s regional contacts have been full of opportunities and challenges: For Hezbollah itself,the increase in the military force brought about by the war also weakened its public opinion base in Lebanon;for its regional allies,the regime’s strong reliance on the organization,while enhancing Hezbollah’s own position,exacerbated relations within the coalition;and for Lebanon and the region,the proliferation of Hezbollah activities in the Middle East exacerbated Lebanon’s state-building crisis,inflamed sectarian contradictions and made the regional situation more sensitive and complex.And the interplay of regional Shia forces,driven by Iran and Hezbollah,will become an irreversible geopolitical phenomenon.Indeed,the unresolved Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the long-standing Iranian aid to Hezbollah,means that the soil that the organization continues to develop will continue to produce. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Middle East Upheaval, Hezbollah, Syria, Iran, Lebanon | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
